Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Gichin Funakoshi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ray Mond (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Funakoshi comes into the arena with War Pimp Renaissance blaring out of the sound system. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 22 - 11 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Gichin Funakoshi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Ray Mond!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Funakoshi circles away from the clinch attempt

and Funakoshi counters with a shoot takedown. Mond fights it but they end up in guard.
Mond is trying to control the position but Funakoshi postures up.
Funakoshi won't allow Mond to sweep him here.
Mond is looking to stand up but Funakoshi isn't so interested in that idea.
Funakoshi postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Funakoshi controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Mond has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Mond looking to hit a scissor sweep but Funakoshi is one step ahead there.

Funakoshi wants to control from the top but Mond keeps moving.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Funakoshi misses with a hook.
Funakoshi shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Mond sprawls well. Mond wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Funakoshi gets slowly back to his feet.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Funakoshi is defended easily by Mond.

Mond tries to close the distance and clinch up but Funakoshi swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Mond tries to clinch but Funakoshi is having none of it.
A looping hook to the body misses from Mond. Funakoshi does a little dance to reset his feet.
Mond defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Funakoshi.

An inside leg kick from Mond misses.
Mond displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Funakoshi.

Mond can't do much from the bottom here.
Mond is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Funakoshi is one step ahead and moves to full mount!
Mond tries to lock up and control but Funakoshi gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Funakoshi lands a nice shot to the head.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Mond avoids a series of strikes thrown by Funakoshi.
Funakoshi unloads with some shots from mount but Mond bucks and avoids them well.
Funakoshi with a couple of short strikes.
Mond tries to reverse the position but Funakoshi maintains control.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Mond is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Mond wants to clinch.
Mond scoring well with a low kick there.
Mond fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Horrible takedown by Funakoshi or perhaps it was just good defense by Mond which made him look bad.
Funakoshi throws a lazy right hand but Mond sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

Mond bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Funakoshi is looking for a sweep.
Funakoshi is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Mond's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

Funakoshi wants to get back to full guard but Mond has mounted him!
Funakoshi tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Mond lands a big shot there that rocks Funakoshi but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mond pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.

Funakoshi is desperately trying to improve his position but Mond has a good base and remains in mount.

Mond thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Funakoshi's head.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Mond is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Ray Mond showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Funakoshi shoots in for a takedown but Mond shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

The ref stands the fighters back up because Gichin Funakoshi just wasn't active enough.
Mond throws a leg kick but Funakoshi checks it.

and Mond counters by moving into the clinch.

Mond has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Funakoshi is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Funakoshi blocks an elbow strike.
Funakoshi fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Mond misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Funakoshi.
Funakoshi tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Mond just stands there and leans against the cage.
Funakoshi is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Mond goes for a takedown in the clinch but Funakoshi prevents it.

I would just about give that final round to Ray Mond.
I think Mond has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
