PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Justin Drum (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Clyde Jackson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jackson comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Voodoo kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Justin Drum!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Clyde Jackson!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Cecil Peabody and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jackson ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Drum takes one to the chin there.
Jackson closes the distance and clinches up with Drum, looking for a takedown. Jackson pushes Drum against the cage but Drum circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Drum tries for a takedown but Jackson sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Drum shoots in looking for a takedown. Jackson tries to sprawl out of it but Drum keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Jackson manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Drum shoots for a takedown but Jackson saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Justin Drum. That's going to take a lot out of him.

and Jackson counters with a takedown into side control.
Drum takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Drum parries the strikes from Jackson easily there. Jackson is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Drum to escape.

Jackson stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Drum shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Jackson defends it nicely.
Drum tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Jackson swivels and escapes.
Drum is breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Drum closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Jackson manages to break the clinch.
Drum tries for a takedown but Jackson sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Jackson manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Drum on his heels. He'll look to pass Drum's guard now, I'm sure.
Jackson passes Drum's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Drum is trying to control but can't.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Jackson connects with a nice short shot to Drum's temple.
Jackson lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Jackson lands a nice short elbow.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Jackson decides to stand up.

Jackson closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Drum quickly recovers to half guard.
Jackson drops an elbow to the side of Drum's head.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Jackson decides to stand and escape the position.

Jackson gets a double leg takedown into Drum's guard.
Jackson scoring with some ground and pound.
Jackson with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Jackson looking to pass the guard.
Jackson lands a couple of elbows.
Jackson wants to pass the guard but Drum is keeping the position.
Jackson is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Drum keeping moving, preventing Jackson from controlling successfully.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Drum escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Jackson gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Jackson passes Drum's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Jackson looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Drum with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Jackson passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Drum!
Drum takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Jackson postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Drum looks a forlorn figure.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Drum is in a horrible position here. Jackson smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

Drum is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Jackson looking for a guillotine from mount but Drum is having none of it.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Jackson lands with some strikes.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Clyde Jackson dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!



Jackson closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Jackson lands in his opponent's guard.
Jackson keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Drum's head.
Jackson in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Jackson has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Drum striking off his back but it's not causing Jackson any problems.
Jackson postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

Jackson decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Jackson throws a leg kick but Drum moved away.
Drum is looking to clinch.
Drum shoots in but no luck this time.

Jackson has Drum up against the cage in a clinch.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Jackson's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Jackson closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Drum to the mat! Drum manages to get full guard.
Drum trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!
Jackson trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Jackson won't allow Drum to sweep him here.
Jackson is in close to Drum's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Clyde Jackson has got the better of the ground game so far.

Drum pushes Jackson off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Jackson shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Jackson showed some decent athleticism there.

This has been an exciting period of action!

Jackson lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Jackson landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.

Jackson decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.

Jackson has closed the distance and engaged Drum in a clinch.

Drum is fighting off a takedown attempt but Jackson is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Drum to the mat. Drum regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Drum is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Jackson lands a couple of digs.

Jackson gets to his feet - Drum follows without any prompting.

Jackson chips away with some ground and pound.
Drum keeping moving, preventing Jackson from controlling successfully.

Drum will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Jackson stands up from Drum's guard - Jackson perhaps looking for a knockout.

Jackson closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Drum gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Drum has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Jackson is working away from the top position though.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Clyde Jackson showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Jackson stands up from Drum's guard - Jackson perhaps looking for a knockout.
Drum doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Jackson counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Jackson is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Drum not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Jackson is working Drum over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Jackson takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Drum is looking to control Jackson's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Drum avoid being mounted?
Jackson tries to pass to full mount but Drum defends it.
Drum is looking for a sweep. Jackson is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Jackson is keen to just control but Drum is a slippery customer.

Drum is in a horrible position here. Jackson smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Jackson lands a big shot to the head and Drum winces in pain. He's tapped out due to strikes!

Our winner, Clyde Jackson, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
