Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Derek Brown (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rickson Rua (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Brown comes to the cage accompanied by The One. Derek Brown has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Brown shoots in but no luck this time.
Rua shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Brown sprawls well. Brown wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Rua gets slowly back to his feet.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Rua.
Rua shoots in for a double leg but Brown sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Brown gets caught napping as Rua dives in and scores a takedown. Brown manages to retain guard.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Rua gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Brown is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Rua pulls him back up using the underhooks.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Brown goes for a takedown attempt but Rua pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Brown shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Rua but Rua pushes him off and we're back to square one.

A combination from Brown does no damage.
Rua closes this distance looking for a takedown but Brown circles away.
Rua fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Brown avoids it really well and circles away.
Rua tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Rickson Rua showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Rua would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Rickson Rua hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Derek Brown.
Rua throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Brown's waist but Brown gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Rua off to one side.
