PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Boozan Alves (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Phil Cruz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Alves comes into the arena with Nightcall blaring out of the sound system. Phil Cruz told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Boozan Alves!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Phil Cruz!
The judges for this bout are Albert Achterberg, Saam Ante and Daniel Blasius.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A jab from Alves misses.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Alves lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Cruz has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Cruz and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Alves checks the leg kick.
Alves looks to throw the jab but Cruz is out of range.
A bone on bone clash there as Cruz blocks the leg kick.
Cruz dodges the punch combination from Alves.
Cruz stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Cruz wants it to stay on the feet.
Cruz connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.

Cruz knocks Alves to the floor with a head kick! Can he finish him!?

Alves is rocked!

It looks like Boozan Alves has been cut.

Cruz content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
Oh Alves is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Alves wants to control but Cruz postures up.
Alves is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Let's hope that Cruz has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Alves seems to have got his legs back now.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Phil Cruz was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Cruz gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Alves wants to control from the top but Cruz keeps moving.

Alves seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Cruz seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Alves chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Cruz can pounce on him.

Alves shoots in and drives through. Cruz sprawls well.
Alves misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

and Cruz counters with a head kick from the bowels of hell that crumples Alves! This one is all over!
