PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Devan Pratt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Renato James (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Pratt kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genuis that is Static X (Destroyer). James is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Dropkick Murphy's - Shipping Up To Boston. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
James is looking to clinch.
James doesn't manage to clinch there - Pratt circles away.
Pratt has a takedown stuffed.
James blocks a jab.

Pratt tries to keep at a distance but James has taken the fight into the clinch.
A nice glancing elbow lands by James.

Pratt jumps guard and drags James to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Pratt tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Pratt has a closed guard, preventing James from standing up.
Pratt is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

BOOM! Pratt connects with a massive shot to the dome!
James's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

Pratt swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and James is now in Pratt's guard. A big mistake from Pratt there, giving up the dominant position!
James wants to get up but he can't break Pratt's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
James looks gassed!

James gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Pratt misses with a wild combination.
James tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Pratt paws at him with a jab and circles away.
James moves in looking to clinch but Pratt pushes him off.
Renato James seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Pratt lands a head shot.
Pratt shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts James as he jumps to the side.
No luck for Pratt with that takedown attempt.

Pratt shoots in but James avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Pratt connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between James's hands.
A big right from Pratt misses.
James tries to clinch but Pratt moves out of range.
Pratt fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

James avoids the head kick by Pratt.

Pratt throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around James's waist but James gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Pratt off to one side.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
James fails with an attempt to clinch.
Pratt lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

James lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.

Pratt changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. James looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
James pushes Pratt away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Pratt gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Pratt is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. James knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
James wants to get back to his feet but Pratt drags him back down.

Pratt has control of James's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and James regains control of the situation pretty easily.

James is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
Pratt works his way to his opponent's back.

James is trying to get to his feet but he's left his neck exposed and Pratt manages to sink in a rear naked choke! Great counter grappling by Pratt!
