PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jesus Mendes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and David Abott (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Abott has chosen The Winner Takes it All! as his entrance music. Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 27 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jesus Mendes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, David Abott!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Alan Glass and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mendes shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Mendes closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Abott tries to clinch but Mendes moves away
and Mendes counters with a thumping low kick.
Abott goes for a double leg but Mendes avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Mendes continues to drive forward.
Mendes missing with knees to the body.
Abott avoiding damage as Mendes throws knees to the body.
Mendes is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Abott is defending well for now.
Abott misses with the head strike.

Mendes pulls guard effortlessly.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Mendes working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Abott doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Abott manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Mendes is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

My spies in BLKOUT Training Center inform me that Abott has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!
Abott sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Mendes's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Abott stands up over Mendes, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Mendes is looking for a sweep. Abott is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Abott is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

Mendes has his foot on Abott's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Abott works his way back into a safe position though.

David Abott dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Mendes moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.

Mendes motions for Abott to come forward. Mendes throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.

and Mendes counters with a good low kick that Abott was not able to check.

David Abott seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Mendes stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Mendes wants it to stay on the feet.

Mendes is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Abott pulls his head out easily.

David Abott showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Abott wants to free his trapped foot but Mendes is holding on for dear life with his legs.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Oooooh, big shot lands for Abott! Mendes is hurt baaadly! Abott is firing away with more strikes - Mendes is covering up... the ref is warning him to do something. He's just covering up though still and the ref has to step in to end the fight! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:57 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). David Abott!
A relieved looking David Abott thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
