PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between John McGuirk (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Billy Bob (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bob has chosen Notkea rotta - Itä meidän as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John McGuirk!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 18 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Billy Bob!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Wesley Smith and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

McGuirk instigates a clinch.
Bob is looking for a takedown up against the cage. McGuirk gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Bob goes for a takedown in the clinch but McGuirk prevents it.

McGuirk breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
McGuirk throws a head kick but Bob moves out of range.

Bob gets the takedown into side control.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
McGuirk dodges the ground and pound from Bob.
Bob is looking to take a break and control but McGuirk is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
McGuirk is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
An elbow from Bob crashes against the mat.
Bob misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Bob has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Bob scores with a couple of short elbows.

That's one minute gone in the round.

You can see the frustration on McGuirk's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
McGuirk might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Bob landing a few strikes.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
McGuirk dodges the ground and pound from Bob.

Bob swings around for an armbar but McGuirk sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Bob's guard.
McGuirk slips nicely into half guard.
Bob told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.
McGuirk looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Bob is trying to get back to full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
McGuirk is trying to control. Bob wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
McGuirk takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
McGuirk seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Bob does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of John McGuirk.
Bob scores with a hook to the body. McGuirk takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
McGuirk shoots in and drives through. Bob sprawls well.

Bob shoots in and bounces McGuirk off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Bob throws a big right hand that misses.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Bob throwing strikes but missing.
Bob missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
McGuirk preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
McGuirk is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Bob accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Bob trying to control but McGuirk is working from the bottom.
Bob missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

Bob decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on McGuirk, up you get!
Bob fails with the takedown.
John McGuirk has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Billy Bob.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Bob.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Bob tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.

Bob thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
McGuirk can't do much from the bottom here.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

McGuirk wants to get back to his feet.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Check out the look on Bob's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
Bob is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Billy Bob dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Bob throws a right and a left that both miss.
McGuirk takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
McGuirk leaves Bob with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
McGuirk throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Bob lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
McGuirk misses with a body shot.
McGuirk misses with a wild combination.
Bob throws an overhand right that has McGuirk reeling! Bob follows up with more punches and McGuirk is out cold! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:44 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Billy Bob!
Billy Bob seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
