Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Matthew Altschuler (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Deverne Franklin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Altschuler comes into the arena with Extreme Ways - Moby blaring out of the sound system. Deverne Franklin will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.

The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Elvis Blanc and Yves DeLean.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Altschuler shoots for a double leg takedown but Franklin sprawls well. He's pushed Altschuler's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

and Altschuler decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Franklin's guard.
Altschuler drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Altschuler jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Franklin has eaten all the pies!

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Altschuler looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Altschuler seems to be working for a kimura but Franklin defends the submission attempt.

Altschuler moves into full mount! Franklin won't be happy about that!

Franklin is desperately trying to improve his position but Altschuler has a good base and remains in mount.
Franklin tries to lock up and control but Altschuler gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

and Altschuler counters with a single leg into guard. Franklin didn't expect that.

Franklin had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Altschuler is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Franklin Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Altschuler's back instead.
Altschuler rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

and Franklin counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Franklin throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Altschuler escapes and throws Franklin's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Altschuler has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Franklin is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Altschuler yanks on the arm and Franklin is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Altschuler.
