Savage kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is The Champ is Here. And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Alan Glass and Cecil Peabody.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Savage thows a body shot but no joy.
Savage ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Mendes moves away.
Savage missing with a left hand there. Mendes was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Savage throws a leg kick that is checked

and Mendes counters with a shoot takedown. Savage fights it but they end up in guard.
Mendes prevents Savage from getting back to his feet.
Mendes looking to sit in guard and control but Savage gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Savage wants to get up but he can't break Mendes's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Savage knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Mendes on the ground.
Savage is trying to escape the position but Mendes is controlling the position.

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Mendes tries to advance to mount but Savage denies him.

Jesus Mendes has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Savage swings and misses with a shot to the body
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Savage connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Mendes steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Savage.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

and Mendes decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Savage's guard.

We've been hearing good reports from Savage's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Mendes is taking a breather. Savage says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Savage lands a big head kick that sends Mendes tumbling to the mat! Savage takes a step backwards and waves Mendes back to his feet - he wants the finish!

It looks like Jesus Mendes has been cut.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Savage swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.

Savage circles and sees the opportunity to plant his feet and throw a really nice straight left hand that drops Mendes to the canvas! Mendes doesn't know where he is but he's trying to survive - Savage keeps piling on the pressure and forces the referee to step in! This one is aaaaaall over!
