PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Tyson Blaze (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tom Hagen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Tyson Blaze!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Tom Hagen!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Shimada, Taro Takaoka and Yuuki Gou.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hagen has a takedown stuffed.
Blaze wants to slow Hagen down by chopping away at his legs.
Hagen tries to clinch but Blaze is having none of it.
Hagen moves out of range of the body kick.
Blaze swings for the body but Hagen moves out of range.
Blaze ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Hagen moves away.
Hagen showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Blaze.

Hagen fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Blaze is out of range.
Blaze misses with a body kick.
Blaze throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Decent striking displayed by Blaze there.
Hagen takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Hagen misses with a leg kick.
Blaze misses the shot to the body.
Blaze misses with a double jab.
Blaze throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Blaze pivots, looking for a leg kick but Hagen is out of range and Blaze settles back down.
Blaze tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Hagen was well out of range. Poor timing from Blaze.
Hagen tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Blaze is able to avoid easily.
Hagen slips a jab from Blaze.
Blaze is looking to wear down Hagen with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
Hagen dives in and grabs Blaze's left leg, looking for a takedown. Blaze pushes down on Hagen's head and hops out.
Blaze misses with a two punch combination.
A bone on bone clash there as Hagen blocks the leg kick.
Blaze wants to clinch.

The fighters circling - Blaze throws out the jab but it was never going to land.

Blaze clinches with his opponent.

Blaze pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Hagen takes one on the button.
Blaze misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
A telegraphed right hand from Blaze misses the target.
Blaze tries to clinch up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Hagen tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Blaze paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Blaze throws a low kick but Hagen moves out of range easily.
Hagen pivots, looking for a leg kick but Blaze is out of range and Hagen settles back down.
Hagen shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Blaze as he avoids it easily.
Tyson Blaze has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tom Hagen.
Blaze scores with a nice strike.
Blaze throws a shot from downtown. Hagen moves away and avoids it.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Blaze doesn't manage to clinch there - Hagen circles away.
Hagen tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tyson Blaze dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!



The fight moves into the clinch position.
Blaze prevents Hagen from breaking the clinch.

Blaze breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Blaze pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Hagen shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Blaze pinned against the cage. Blaze gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Hagen wants to clinch.
Blaze with a hook.

Blaze slaps away a takedown attempt from Hagen, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Blaze swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Blaze.
Blaze scores with a one two! Hagen had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Hagen does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Blaze misses with a straight left.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Hagen rushes Blaze and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Hagen tries for a takedown. No joy.
Tyson Blaze has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tom Hagen.

Blaze breaks from the clinch.

Hagen drives through with a takedown into Blaze's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Blaze utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Hagen with a nice head shot there.
Hagen trying to control the position from guard on top but Blaze is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Blaze is trying to get back to his feet.
Hagen wants to lay and pray for a moment but Blaze keeps working.
Hagen tries to advance to mount but Blaze denies him.
Hagen advances to full mount.
Hagen has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
BOOM! Hagen connects with a massive shot to the dome!

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Hagen is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Blaze has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Blaze!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Hagen throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Blaze escapes and throws Hagen's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Blaze tries to move to mount but Hagen blocks the move with his legs.
Hagen is looking for a sweep.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Hagen is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Blaze's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Hagen slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tom Hagen showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Hagen stands and throws Blaze's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Tom Hagen has got the better of the ground game so far.
Hagen creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.

Hagen swings around for an armbar but Blaze sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Hagen's guard.

Hagen escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Blaze gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Hagen tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Hagen is looking for a triangle here but Blaze uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Hagen is trying to improve his position.

The referee asks Blaze politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Blaze prefers to stall for the moment though.
Hagen is looking to regain half guard here but Blaze keeps moving and retains side control.

Blaze decides to stand back up. Blaze steps back and let's Hagen get back to his feet.
Good work by Hagen as he checks the leg kick.
Blaze swings and misses with a hook to the body.

Hagen fails to land the takedown.
Hagen takes one to the side of the head.
Hagen misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Blaze feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Hagen's calf.
Hagen tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Blaze misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Blaze goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Blaze keeps the fight on the outside.
Blaze tries a low kick but Hagen avoids it.
Tyson Blaze is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Blaze misses with the combination.
Hagen closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
The fight stays on the outside here - Blaze looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Hagen slips a jab from Blaze.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Tom Hagen.
I think Hagen has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
