PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Max Cooperman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Akira Khan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Max Cooperman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Akira Khan!
The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Colin Fray and Micheangelo Fripello.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Khan gets a clinch.
Cooperman is looking to break free of the clinch but Khan has double underhooks.

Khan pulls guard effortlessly.
Khan is controlling Cooperman's posture.

Khan pushes Cooperman off and gets back to his feet.
Cooperman swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
A combination from Cooperman does no damage.

Khan throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Cooperman was covering up waiting for the punch and Khan finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Khan gets to his feet. Cooperman looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Khan feints and as Cooperman raises his hands in defense, Khan changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Khan trying to control the position from guard on top but Cooperman is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Khan is looking to work some ground and pound but Cooperman has wrist control.
Khan with a flurry of punches that miss.

Khan decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Cooperman, up you get!
Cooperman fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Cooperman feints a jab promting Khan to slip. Cooperman then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Khan slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.

and Khan counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Khan throws a big elbow that misses.
Cooperman is breathing heavily.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Khan accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Khan trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Khan postures up in Cooperman's guard and throws a big left but Cooperman blocks it.
Khan throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Cooperman works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Khan gets to his feet. Cooperman looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Cooperman misses with a wild combination.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Khan bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Khan advances to mount.

Khan jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Cooperman is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Cooperman and Khan has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Khan misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

Khan is trying to get an arm triangle but Cooperman is defending well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Khan remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Cooperman knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Khan on the ground.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Khan gets a double leg takedown into Cooperman's guard.

Khan thows a huge punch but Cooperman dodges it nicely.

Khan stands up from half guard.
Cooperman defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Khan.
Cooperman throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Cooperman throws a series of strikes that have Khan backpedaling.
Cooperman throws a nice looking combination but Khan bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Max Cooperman seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Cooperman misses with a double jab.
Cooperman tries to bum rush Khan with a series of wild strikes but Khan uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Khan closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Cooperman did well to prevent Khan getting side control.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Khan seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Cooperman does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Khan is looking to take a break and control but Cooperman is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Poor strikes thrown by Khan there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!

Khan misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
Khan tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Khan connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Cooperman is bucking up trying to escape but Khan cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Khan throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Cooperman because Khan loaded up on that one.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Akira Khan showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

Cooperman throws an elbow that misses. Khan uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Cooperman's guard. Nice move by Khan!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Khan lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Cooperman wants to get back to his feet but Khan is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Khan forces his way into half guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Khan passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Cooperman!
Khan wants to control the pace but Cooperman is squirming around nicely.
Khan lands with some strikes.

Khan lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
