Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rau Utu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bako King (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bako King is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Rau Utu!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 21 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Bako King!
The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Winston Howard and Donatello Bradman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Utu lands a body shot.
King shoots in looking for a takedown but Utu manages to keep the fight standing, pushing King's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
King is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
King needs to keep his hands up - Utu had a free shot at his head there.
Utu tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and King is able to avoid easily.
King dodges the punch combination from Utu.
Utu wants to land a leg kick but King is out of range.
King looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Utu clinches.
Good body shot from Utu.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Utu lands with a short head shot on the inside.
King avoids a wild elbow strike from Utu.
Utu tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.

Utu manages to break the clinch.

That's one minute gone in the round.
King avoids the body shot from Utu.
King shoots for a takedown but Utu saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Rau Utu is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Utu misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

King closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Utu did well to prevent King getting side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

King is looking for a kimura but Utu is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for King to get the leverage.
King throwing shots but Utu is blocking nicely.
Utu is looking for a sweep. King is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
King passes to full mount!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Utu really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
King thowing shots but they're missing.
King misses with a head shot.
King tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
King landing strikes from the mount and Utu is in trouble!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Utu blocking the ground and pound.

Utu in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.

King scoring with strikes but Utu is staying in there.
The referee warns Utu that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Utu really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
King throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Utu because King loaded up on that one.
Utu wants to hold on but King pushes him away.
Utu's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
Utu avoids a series of strikes thrown by King.
King has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
BOOM! King connects with a massive shot to the dome!
King fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
King looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.


It looks like Rau Utu has been cut.

King has hold of Utu's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Utu manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
King has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Utu's face.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Utu tries to get back to half guard but can't.
King is in the full mount, landing strikes.


Rau Utu's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Rau Utu's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:37 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Bako King!
Bako King decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
