Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Adam Hopkins!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Bj Cole!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hopkins fails with an attempt to clinch.
Hopkins with a poor takedown

so Cole counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Cole must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Cole prevents Hopkins from getting back to his feet.
Cole postures up in Hopkins's guard and throws a big left but Hopkins blocks it.

Hopkins is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Cole is aware though and is defending well.
Cole wants to pass the guard but Hopkins is keeping the position.
Cole stops Hopkins from standing up.
Hopkins wants to sweep but no luck.
Cole advances to half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hopkins is looking to improve his position.
Cole really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Hopkins. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Cole decides to stand and escape the position.
Hopkins scoring well with a low kick there.

Hopkins gets the takedown into side control.
Hopkins throws a strike aimed at the side of Cole's head but Cole avoids it well.

Hopkins tries for a kimura but Cole is defending well.
Cole struggling a bit here.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Cole can do anything to dispel that myth.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Hopkins wants to lay and pray for a moment but Cole keeps working.
Cole can't do much from the bottom here.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Hopkins wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Cole, who protects the arm well.
Cole is trying to get back to half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
You can see the frustration on Cole's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Hopkins has hold of Cole's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Cole tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Hopkins cranks the arm and Cole screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Cole, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:30 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Adam Hopkins!
In his post fight interview, Adam Hopkins started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
