The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Gallant keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Johnson dives in and grabs Gallant's left leg, looking for a takedown. Gallant pushes down on Johnson's head and hops out.

Johnson shoots in and gets a takedown into Gallant's guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Gallant can do anything to dispel that myth.
Johnson wants to control from the top but Gallant keeps moving.
Johnson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Gallant swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Johnson stays in close to Gallant's body and controls the position.

Johnson drops back, looking for a kneebar! Gallant looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Gallant looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Gallant!
Johnson is pushing Gallant's head away, looking to escape. Gallant manages to hold on to the position though.

Johnson closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Gallant's guard.

Johnson has hold of Gallant's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Gallant tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Johnson cranks the arm and Gallant screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Gallant, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.
