PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Muhammad Ali (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chris Freeman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Freeman's choice of entrance music: Thrift Shop. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, Paul Tew and James Atkins.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ali blocks a head kick by Freeman.
Ali avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Ali throws a nice looking combination but Freeman bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Ali lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Freeman shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Ali as he avoids it easily.
Freeman takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Ali defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Freeman.
Freeman takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Ali thuds a left hand into Freeman's body.
Ali lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Freeman circles away quickly and effectively.
Freeman tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
A left lands for Ali.
Freeman tries to close the distance and clinch up but Ali swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Freeman walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Freeman looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.

Freeman throws a head kick that misses.
Ali throws out a powerful jab.
A combination from Freeman does no damage.
Ali throws a nice looking combination but Freeman bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Freeman fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Ali avoids it really well and circles away.
Muhammad Ali has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Chris Freeman.

Freeman dodges the punch combination from Ali.
Ali keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Freeman shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Ali pinned against the cage. Ali gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Ali misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Freeman takes one on the chin but seems OK.

Freeman shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Freeman is figuring out what he wants to do next.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Chris Freeman.

Muhammad Ali is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Ali misses with a double jab.

Freeman looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Freeman passes to full mount!
Ali is breathing heavily.
Freeman controlling from mount.
Freeman's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Muhammad Ali will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Ali dips down and scores with a jab to the body.

Freeman drives through with a takedown into guard.
Freeman is stalling in the full guard.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Freeman sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Ali's guard.

Freeman is controlling the pace.
Ali knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Freeman on the ground.
Freeman throwing shots but Ali is blocking nicely.
Freeman uses his free foot to push down on Ali's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Ali.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Freeman is working to isolate an arm here. It's a telegraphed submission attempt but he's gone for it anyway - and he's got it! Freeman extends the arm and Ali is forced to tap!
