PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Tony Jaa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Seth Hanner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Tony Jaa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Seth Hanner!
The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Jorge Garcia and Jonathan Paton.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jaa shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Hanner as he jumps to the side.

and Hanner counters by moving into the clinch.
Jaa drops down looking for an ankle pick but Hanner pulls his leg out and moves away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tony Jaa. That's going to take a lot out of him.

and Jaa counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Jaa tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Hanner paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Jaa throws a head kick but Hanner moves out of range.
Jaa misses the shot to the body.

Jaa lands with a thumping leg kick.
Jaa looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Hanner is fending him off so far but Jaa persists. Nope, Hanner circles away and we're back to standing.

No joy there for Hanner, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

and Hanner counters with a takedown into side control.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Hanner is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Jaa knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
A lull in the action here as Hanner stalls from top position.
Jaa is trying to control Hanner's posture but Hanner avoids it.

Hanner has hold of Jaa's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Jaa manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Hanner is in the full mount, landing strikes.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Jaa might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Jaa is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.
Hanner connects with a series of strikes and the referee is calling for Jaa to escape the position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Hanner lands an elbow to the side of the head.
Hanner has good solid back control here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Hanner wants to land a leg kick but Jaa is out of range.
Jaa leaves Hanner with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Jaa shoots for a double leg takedown but Hanner sprawls well. He's pushed Jaa's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
The fight stays on the outside here - Jaa looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Jaa tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Hanner smiles and moves away.

Jaa misses with a jab, cross combination.
Jaa shoots in looking for a takedown. Hanner tries to sprawl out of it but Jaa keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Hanner manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Hanner is working Jaa over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Hanner is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Hanner is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Jaa is surviving well by controlling Hanner's body position as best he can.
Hanner takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Jaa manages to regain half guard. Good work.

Hanner looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Seth Hanner showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Jaa is looking for a sweep.

Hanner creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.

Jaa is trying to escape the position but Hanner is controlling the position.
Hanner's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

Hanner is putting a hurting on Jaa here, landing some big shots from side control.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

Hanner has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Tony Jaa is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
A looping hook to the body misses from Hanner. Jaa does a little dance to reset his feet.
Jaa tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Hanner swivels and escapes.

Hanner shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Jaa is trying to defend but Hanner finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Hanner wants to pass to mount but Jaa is defending the position.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Seth Hanner was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Hanner moves in looking to clinch but Jaa pushes him off.
Hanner shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Jaa but Jaa pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Jaa fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Hanner closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Jaa quickly recovers to half guard.
Hanner is controlling the pace.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Hanner is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Jaa!

And that's the end of the fight!
Seth Hanner comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Hanner winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
