PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Kenny Worner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mike Bruce (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys are coming into the fight with injuries so let's see if that has a bearing on the fight. Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Kenny Worner!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mike Bruce!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Robert Twigg and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Bruce bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Worner is breathing heavily.
Bruce takes a little break here. Worner wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.

Bruce decides to stand back up.
Bruce fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Bruce shoots in and gets a takedown into Worner's guard.
Worner will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Worner is looking for a triangle but Bruce pushes his legs off easily.
Bruce is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Worner really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Bruce trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Bruce stays in close to Worner's body and controls the position.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Worner holds on and takes a little breather.
Bruce sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Worner's guard.
Worner is looking for a sweep. Bruce is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Bruce performing his best blanket impression for a moment.

Bruce looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Bruce is controlling the pace.
Worner trying to control here.

Worner is trying to get back to full guard.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Bruce throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Bruce shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Worner napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Worner is looking for a sweep.

Bruce goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Worner rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Bruce's guard! Nice work there by Worner!
Bruce trying to keep a closed guard but Worner is proving a slippery customer.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Worner not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Worner wants to control from the top but Bruce keeps moving.
Worner won't allow Bruce to sweep him here.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Worner trying to control but Bruce is working from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Worner wants to control but Bruce is keeping busy.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Mike Bruce was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Bruce looking to score a takedown here. Worner is defending well but Bruce drives through and ends up in Worner's guard.
Bruce wants to control from the top but Worner keeps moving.

Worner controls Bruce momentarily but Bruce frees himself.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bruce content to stall in guard here.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Bruce wants to get up but he can't break Worner's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Mike Bruce has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Bruce leaves Worner with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Bruce throws a front kick that sends Worner stumbling back into the cage.

Bruce gets a takedown into half guard.
Bruce is trying to control the action in half guard but Worner is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Bruce seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Worner is refusing to be controlled, as Bruce sits in half guard.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Mike Bruce.
Worner shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kenny Worner. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Bruce closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Bruce is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Worner has escaped the position, nice work there.
Bruce lands a decent elbow from side control.
Mike Bruce has got the better of the ground game so far.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Worner is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
The strikes coming from Bruce are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mike Bruce showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!


Worner fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Bruce avoids it really well and circles away.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Worner wants to clinch.
Bruce takes a body punch but keeps moving.

Bruce shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Worner is trying to defend but Bruce finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Bruce content to control rather than advance.

Worner keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Bruce working the head and body with strikes.
Bruce missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Bruce working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on Worner's thigh. Worner counters though and makes it back to full guard.

Bruce wants to stand but Worner has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Worner keeping moving, preventing Bruce from controlling successfully.
Bruce trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Mike Bruce wasn't active enough on the ground.
Worner misses with a few strikes there.
Bruce doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Worner counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.

Bruce feints and as Worner raises his hands in defense, Bruce changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Worner tries to buck Bruce off but Bruce is having none of it.
Kenny Worner has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Mike Bruce is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Bruce moves into full mount!

Mike Bruce comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Bruce has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
