The crowd seem to be enjoying Kroener's choice of entrance music: Eisblume - Eisblumen. Sascha Kroener has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kroener ducks under a wild hook from Fredrick.
Fredrick swings for the body but Kroener moves out of range.

Kroener gets a clinch.

Kroener has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Fredrick is trying to keep an underhook but Kroener manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Kroener landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Fredrick is not content to let Kroener control the position.
Kroener perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Kroener looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Fredrick tries to get to full guard but Kroener has control of the leg.
Kroener is keen to just control but Fredrick is a slippery customer.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Kroener rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Fredrick moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Fredrick misses with the combination.
Fredrick is breathing heavily.
Kroener shoots in and drives through. Fredrick sprawls well.
Fredrick scores with a shot to the body.

Kroener has closed the distance and engaged Fredrick in a clinch.

Fredrick wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Kroener has him pressed against the cage.

Fredrick looks to land a combination but Kroener avoids it well.
Kroener feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Fredrick's calf.

and Kroener counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Fredrick!
A nice elbow there by Kroener.
Kroener has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Fredrick's face.
Kroener takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Fredrick is trying to stand up.

Kroener wants to finish this one by submission but Fredrick is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Kroener.
Fredrick stops Kroener from taking his back. Still, being mounted isn't any better.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Fredrick bucks up and throws Kroener to the side - he's got back to his feet. Great escape!

Kroener throws a right and a left that both miss.

Kroener shoots in but Fredrick avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Fredrick throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Kroener.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Kroener misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Kroener takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Kroener changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Fredrick tries to avoid it but Kroener manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Fredrick to the ground. Fredrick escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Stan Fredrick has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Sascha Kroener.
Kroener takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Fredrick fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Kroener shoots in for a takedown but Fredrick shows good takedown defense.
Sascha Kroener seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Fredrick connects with a jab.
Fredrick thows a body shot but no joy.
Fredrick will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Kroener feints and as Fredrick raises his hands in defense, Kroener changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Kroener closes the distance and clinches up with Fredrick, looking for a takedown. Kroener pushes Fredrick against the cage but Fredrick circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Good exchange - Fredrick coming out on top.
Fredrick keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Fredrick throws out a leg kick but Kroener moves out of range and Fredrick only half commits.
Kroener closes the distance and clinches up with Fredrick, looking for a takedown. Kroener pushes Fredrick against the cage but Fredrick circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

and Kroener counters with a shoot takedown. Fredrick fights it but they end up in guard.

Fredrick escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Kroener gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Kroener is sitting in close to Fredrick's body. Fredrick has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Kroener is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Kroener is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Fredrick.
