PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Devon Wilson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cornelius Crumpet (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Wilson might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to the Offspring - Demons. The crowd seem to be enjoying Crumpet's choice of entrance music: Kings of Leon - Fans. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Devon Wilson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Cornelius Crumpet!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Stewart Dunkirk and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Crumpet gets caught flat footed, as Wilson shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Wilson passes Crumpet's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Crumpet is trying to stand up here but Wilson is controlling him well.

Crumpet tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Horrible takedown by Wilson or perhaps it was just good defense by Crumpet which made him look bad.
Wilson takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.

Crumpet misses with a few strikes there.
Wilson uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Crumpet.

Wilson is breathing heavily.
Crumpet throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

Wilson shoots in and bounces Crumpet off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Wilson is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Crumpet is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Crumpet manages to escape and get back to his feet.

The crowd cheers as Crumpet lands an impressive looking overhand right. Wilson doesn't seem phased though.

Crumpet connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Crumpet jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Crumpet throws a right hand that Wilson ducks under and follows up with a left that Wilson also avoids with ease.

Crumpet swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
A slapping leg kick lands for Wilson.
Crumpet throws a big shot that misses.
The fighters circling - Crumpet throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Crumpet misses with a double jab.
Crumpet throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Wilson has a takedown stuffed.

A choreographed right hand from Crumpet misses the target.
Crumpet takes a swing at Wilson's ribcage but misses.
Wilson closes the distance and clinches up with Crumpet, looking for a takedown. Wilson pushes Crumpet against the cage but Crumpet circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Devon Wilson. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Crumpet throws a hook to the side of Wilson's head but Wilson sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Wilson looks to score with a jab to the body but Crumpet is just out of range.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Wilson walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Crumpet throws an overhand right that lands on Wilson's shoulder, as Wilson tries to avoid the shot.

Wilson is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Crumpet is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Crumpet has escaped and now he's on top!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Cornelius Crumpet dominated that round.
That's time! Wilson's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Wilson uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Crumpet.

Wilson shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Crumpet's guard.

Wilson is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Wilson thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Crumpet holds on and takes a little breather.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Wilson shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Crumpet as he avoids it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Devon Wilson. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Crumpet throws a shot from downtown. Wilson moves away and avoids it.
Wilson on the wrong end of a nice hook.
No joy there for Crumpet, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Wilson feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Crumpet is trying to get back to half guard.
Wilson wants to lay and pray for a moment but Crumpet keeps working.

Wilson is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Crumpet knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Wilson tries for a kimura but Crumpet is defending well.
Crumpet can't do much from the bottom here.
Wilson works to advance to full mount. Crumpet defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.

Wilson has control of Crumpet's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Crumpet regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Wilson working for a submission here. He's tucked his head under his opponent's arm, looking for an arm triangle. He's hopped off into side control, looking to tighten the submission... is it going to work? He's given up a good position looking for it. Crumpet looks OK. Oh, I spoke too soon, he's out! That must have been tighter than I thought! Excellent work there by Wilson! Submission of the night perhaps?
