PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bret Hink (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Conor Roberts (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hink comes to the cage accompanied by Xanadu. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Bret Hink!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Conor Roberts!
The judges for this bout are Phil Schofield, James Atkins and Donald Grub.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice takedown defense from Hink. No joy for Roberts on that attempt.
Sloppy strikes from Hink. Those never looked like landing.
Roberts fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Roberts showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Hink.
Roberts tries to clinch up but Hink circles away and keeps his distance.
Roberts tries to close the distance and clinch up but Hink swats him away and circles back towards the center.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Roberts.
Bret Hink has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Conor Roberts.
A right-left combo lands from Roberts.

Hink closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Roberts to the mat! Roberts manages to get full guard.
Roberts can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Hink controls the pace.

Roberts wants to stand up but Hink is controlling him.

Bret Hink has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Hink slaps away a takedown attempt from Roberts, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Hink fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Roberts to the ground. Hink is now in Roberts's guard.
Hink won't allow Roberts to get back to his feet.

Roberts wants to sweep but no luck.

Hink stands up and waves to Roberts to follow him.

Hink jumps guard but Roberts stands there with Hink around his waist. Hink gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Roberts is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Hink to keep the fight standing.
Hink throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Robertss head.

Hink has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Roberts uses from the top position.
Hink not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Roberts prevents Hink from getting back to his feet.
Hink wants to control but Roberts passes easily into half guard.
Roberts is keen to just control but Hink is a slippery customer.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Roberts wants to control but Hink is keeping him busy.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Hink is staying active underneath Roberts, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Roberts wants to pass the guard but Hink is defending well.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Hink rushes Roberts and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Roberts is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Hink to keep the fight standing.

Hink has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Roberts is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Roberts can't find room to land a body shot as Hink controls the action.
Hink is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Roberts is defending well for now.

Roberts drags the fight down to the ground.

Roberts is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Hink defends well.
Hink wants to get up but he can't break Roberts's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
A slapping body kick lands there for Hink.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Hink seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Roberts for as long as he can get away with.

Hink fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Roberts sprawls well initially but Hink persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Hink is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!

Hink has hold of Roberts's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Roberts manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Roberts wants to hold on but Hink pushes him away.
Hink knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Roberts on the ground.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Hink wants to control the pace but Roberts is squirming around nicely.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!


Roberts changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Hink tries to avoid it but Roberts manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Hink to the ground. Hink escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Hink circles away from the clinch attempt
and Hink counters with an outside leg kick.
Roberts looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Hink is fending him off so far but Roberts persists. Nope, Hink circles away and we're back to standing.
A looping hook to the body misses from Hink. Roberts does a little dance to reset his feet.

Hink drives through with a takedown into Roberts's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Roberts takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Hink decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Roberts gets caught napping as Hink dives in and scores a takedown. Roberts manages to retain guard.

Roberts is working an open guard so Hink takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Hink lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Hink.

Hink throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Roberts tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Hink is in Roberts's guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Hink slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Hink's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Hink postures up and lands a big shot to Roberts's brow.
Hink stands up over Roberts, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Hink wants to control from the top but Roberts keeps moving.
Hink wants to pass the guard but Roberts is keeping the position.

Roberts is looking to stand up but Hink isn't so interested in that idea.

Hink shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Roberts's guard.

Bret Hink is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Hink in particular looking to stall.
