PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Vargo Haga (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Robert Garcia (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Garcia has chosen Art of Fighting Theme as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Vargo Haga!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Robert Garcia!
The judges for this bout are Seu Braga, Daniel Cesar and Thiago Cunha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Haga throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Haga shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Garcia counters with a nice double leg into side control. Haga won't be happy with that.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Haga tries to escape but Garcia is in control.

Garcia decides to stand up, so the ref orders Haga to his feet.

Haga pushes Garcia up against the cage in a clinch.

Haga manages to break the clinch.
Garcia fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Haga misses with a takedown attempt - Garcia sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Vargo Haga seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Haga tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Haga misses with a head kick.
Haga tries to land a body kick

and Garcia counters with a nice double leg into side control. Haga won't be happy with that.

Garcia is trying to get an arm triangle but Haga is defending well.
You can see the frustration on Haga's face as Garcia controls the position.
Haga bucks up and tries to throw Garcia off but instead Garcia has got his back!
Haga looking to stop the rear naked choke attempt by controlling the hands.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Garcia biding his time, controlling Haga.
Garcia's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Haga holding both Garcia 's hands and preventing any damage.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Garcia slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Robert Garcia dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Garcia avoids the head kick by Haga.
No joy there for Haga, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Garcia shoots in and drives through. Haga sprawls well.

Garcia forces Haga back against the cage and clinches.
Haga is trying to stall.

Garcia pulls Haga into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Garcia looking to control.
Haga wanted to stand there but Garcia had control of the position.
Garcia is adopting a defensive guard.
Garcia is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Garcia throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Garcia looking for a sweep. Not yet Garcia, not yet.
Garcia seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Haga prevents a takedown attempt there.
Haga wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Haga is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

Garcia gets control of Haga's arms and successfully pulls guard. Garcia will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Haga stands and steps away. Garcia gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Garcia avoids the head kick by Haga.
Haga misses with an attempted mid kick.

Garcia darts in and clinches Haga up against the cage.
Haga wants to break free but Garcia has control.
Haga tries to circle away but Garcia has him pinned against the cage.
Haga gets underhooks to prevent Garcia's takedown attempt.
Vargo Haga has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Robert Garcia.

Haga drops down looking for an ankle pick but Garcia pulls his leg out and moves away.
Haga misses with a series of wild punches.
Haga misses with an attempted mid kick.

Garcia drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Garcia decides to take the fight back to the feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Haga shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Garcia sprawls well. Garcia wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Haga gets slowly back to his feet.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Garcia ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Haga moves away.
Haga misses with the body kick

and Garcia decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Haga's guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Haga can't keep his opponent in guard - Garcia advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Garcia slows the pace down in half guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Robert Garcia showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!



Haga takes the fight into the clinch.
Haga gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Garcia.
Haga wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Garcia breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Haga throws a head kick but Garcia moves out of range.

That's one minute gone in the round.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Garcia is defended easily by Haga.
Haga throws a body kick that misses
and Garcia counters with a thumping low kick.
Garcia misses with a body shot.
Garcia throws a series of punches but Haga avoids them all with ease.
Garcia fails to land with a series of punches.
Vargo Haga is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Garcia shoots in for a takedown but Haga shows good takedown defense.
Vargo Haga has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Robert Garcia.
Haga goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Haga connects with a high kick.

Garcia shoots in and bounces Haga off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Garcia prevents Haga from getting back to his feet.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Robert Garcia is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
A head kick by Haga misses

so Garcia counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Garcia won't allow Haga to get back to his feet.
Garcia stands and throws Haga's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Haga wants to get back to his feet but Garcia is dominant here and he's now got Haga's back!
Vargo Haga has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Haga is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by Garcia.
Robert Garcia has got the better of the ground game so far.
Haga controlling the position well but he knows he's in a bad position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Garcia has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Haga's body.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Robert Garcia.
I've got Garcia winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
