PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Faustus Kypriakis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Wayne Carter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Carter stuffs the takedown.

Kypriakis tries to keep at a distance but Carter has taken the fight into the clinch.
Kypriakis fails to pull guard.

Kypriakis fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Carter bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Carter wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Kypriakis, who protects the arm well.

Kypriakis is trying to escape the position but Carter is controlling the position.
Kypriakis parries the strikes from Carter easily there. Carter is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Kypriakis to escape.
Carter wants to control but Kypriakis is keeping him busy.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Kypriakis knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Carter on the ground.
Kypriakis is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Carter is one step ahead and moves to full mount!
This has been an exciting period of action!

Carter is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Kypriakis is surviving well by controlling Carter's body position as best he can.
Kypriakis is desperately trying to improve his position but Carter has a good base and remains in mount.

Kypriakis tries to hold on but Carter postures up.
Kypriakis is squirming around, avoiding Carter's attempts to control the action.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Carter stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.

Carter closes the distance and clinches up with Kypriakis, looking for a takedown. Carter pushes Kypriakis against the cage but Kypriakis circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Kypriakis shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Carter as he jumps to the side.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Kypriakis misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Kypriakis is looking to clinch.
Carter will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Carter closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Kypriakis did well to prevent Carter getting side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kypriakis is controlling Carter's position as best he can from this difficult position.

Carter is pressing down on Kypriakis's thigh, looking to free his foot. Kypriakis is holding on for now.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Carter moves into the clinch.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Wayne Carter hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Kypriakis.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Carter feints and as Kypriakis raises his hands in defense, Carter changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Carter throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Kypriakis works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kypriakis can't keep his opponent in guard - Carter advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Carter uses his free foot to push down on Kypriakis's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Kypriakis.

Carter is working to isolate an arm here. It's a telegraphed submission attempt but he's gone for it anyway - and he's got it! Carter extends the arm and Kypriakis is forced to tap!
