The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Naruhito just misses with a punch to the body.
Naruhito tries to bum rush Gerrik with a series of wild strikes but Gerrik uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Gerrik tries to close the distance and clinch but Naruhito swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Gerrik drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Naruhito wants to stand up but Gerrik is controlling him.
Gerrik is looking to pass into half guard but Naruhito pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Naruhito is in guard.
Naruhito throws a strike but Gerrik rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Naruhito wants to stand but Gerrik is controlling the position.

Gerrik has gone for a leg lock! Naruhito slips out almost immediately though and dives into Gerrik's guard.
Gerrik bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Naruhito's guard.

Naruhito is looking to stand up but Gerrik isn't so interested in that idea.
Naruhito utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Naruhito will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Gerrik lands a couple of digs.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Gerrik connects with a nice short shot to Naruhito's temple.

Gerrik is nestled in close to Naruhito, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Naruhito is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Gerrik scores with a couple of nice shots.

Gerrik uses his free foot to push down on Naruhito's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Naruhito.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
