PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Ray Zero (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and J R Crain (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Zero comes to the cage accompanied by Fozzy's "Shine Forever". Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ray Zero!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, J R Crain!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Chris Downing and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice sprawl there from Crain as Zero shoots in.
Zero blocks a head kick by Crain.
Crain tries to close the distance and clinch but Zero swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Zero scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.

Zero shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Zero showed some decent athleticism there.
Zero trying to mount his opponent but Crain defends it.
Crain is trying to get back to full guard.

Zero stands up out of the half guard.

Zero drives through with a takedown into guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Crain is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Zero is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

Zero decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Crain, up you get!

Crain shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Zero as he avoids it easily.

Crain displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Zero.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Zero lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.

Zero seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Crain fails with an attempt to clinch.
Zero is trying hard to land a takedown here. Crain sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Zero changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Crain tries to avoid it but Zero manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Crain to the ground. Crain escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
The fight stays on the outside here - Zero looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Crain gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Zero to score an easy takedown into full guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Zero wants to stand but Crain has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Nice takedown defense from Crain. No joy for Zero on that attempt.
Zero shoots in looking for a takedown but Crain manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Zero's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Ray Zero overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Crain looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Zero is concentrating on defense, preventing Crain from advancing position.

Zero manages to get to full guard.

Zero has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Crain off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

Zero wants to get up but he can't break Crain's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

That was a close second round but I would say that Ray Zero will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Zero throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Crain tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Zero is in Crain's guard.

Crain got a little sloppy there for a moment and Zero has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Crain has managed to get both his arms back between Zero's legs - danger averted.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Zero wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Crain manages to pass to side control.

It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

J R Crain has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Ray Zero is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

I would just about give that final round to J R Crain.
Well Zero has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
