PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Pharoah Parisyan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jonathan Hawkes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hawkes is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: I'm Shipping Up to Boston. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Pharoah Parisyan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jonathan Hawkes!
The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, Winston Howard and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Parisyan misses with a body kick.
Hawkes shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Parisyan as he jumps to the side.
Parisyan turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Pharoah Parisyan seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Parisyan with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Hawkes throws a left and a right that both miss
and Parisyan counters with a good low kick that Hawkes was not able to check.
Parisyan misses the shot to the body.
Hawkes clobbers Parisyan with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Parisyan lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
A shot to the body from Hawkes misses
and Parisyan counters with a right hand to the body.
Parisyan scores with a hook to the body. Hawkes takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.

Hawkes bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Hawkes tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
Parisyan avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Hawkes.

Hawkes postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Parisyan tries to bench press Hawkes off him but Hawkes keeps the position.
Parisyan managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Hawkes.
Hawkes wants to lay and pray for a moment but Parisyan keeps working.
Parisyan is looking to reverse the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Hawkes scores with a couple of short elbows.

Parisyan tries to bench press Hawkes off him but Hawkes keeps the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hawkes misses with the ground and pound.
Parisyan tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Hawkes looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Parisyan is avoiding damage well.
Parisyan dodges the ground and pound from Hawkes.
Hawkes throws an elbow but Parisyan slips to the side and avoids it well.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Hawkes grinds an elbow into Parisyan's temple.
Hawkes works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Hawkes wants to control but Parisyan is keeping him busy.
Hawkes might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Parisyan kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Hawkes in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.

Parisyan is working to avoid the ground and pound but Hawkes connects with a decent elbow.
Parisyan takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
You can see the frustration on Parisyan's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Hawkes tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

It looks like Pharoah Parisyan has been cut.
Parisyan misses with a right hand
and Hawkes counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Good standup being displayed there by Parisyan as he connects with a hook.
Parisyan keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Hawkes scores with a one two! Parisyan had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Pharoah Parisyan has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jonathan Hawkes.

Hawkes throws a low kick but Parisyan moves out of range easily.
Parisyan connects with a right hand. Hawkes shakes it off.
Parisyan changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.

Parisyan shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Hawkes napping and manages to drive through into side control!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. And we move into the final round!


Hawkes fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Parisyan scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.

Hawkes tries to clinch but Parisyan is having none of it.
Hawkes blocks a low kick nicely.

Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Hawkes lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Parisyan has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Parisyan and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Parisyan connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Parisyan fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Hawkes is out of range.
Parisyan scores with a crisp jab that stopped Hawkes in his tracks.

Parisyan throws a nice looking combination but Hawkes bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Hawkes.
Hawkes connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
A lazy body kick from Parisyan

and Hawkes counters with a single leg into guard. Parisyan didn't expect that.
Parisyan pulls Hawkes in close to his closed guard and prevents Hawkes from doing any damage or advancing position.

Hawkes throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

I think Hawkes has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
