Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the bantamweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Dwyane James!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Cage Nichols!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Robert Douchet and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Excellent takedown into side control there by Nichols.
James tries to bench press Nichols off him but Nichols keeps the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Nichols is trying to get an arm triangle but James is defending well.

Nichols tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
James looks to move to half guard but instead Nichols has passed into mount! Damn!

Nichols has hold of James's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and James manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Nichols jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but James manages to avoid the submission attempt.
James is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Nichols tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

James tries to bench press Nichols off him but Nichols keeps the position.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Nichols is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. James knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Nichols creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.

Nichols thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Nichols tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
James tries to buck Nichols off but Nichols is having none of it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Nichols in side control lands a decent elbow.


James is rocked!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Nichols has hold of James's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! James tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Nichols cranks the arm and James screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from James, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:33 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Cage Nichols! Cage Nichols retains his bantamweight title!
