PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Peter McBain (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bert Ernie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). McBain comes to the cage accompanied by Alien8. Bert Ernie struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 136.9lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Peter McBain!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 24 - 37 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Bert Ernie!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Alec Ball and Elvis Blanc.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ernie drives through with a takedown into McBain's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

McBain scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Ernie throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around McBain's waist but McBain gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Ernie off to one side.
Nice takedown defense from McBain. No joy for Ernie on that attempt.
Ernie shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says McBain as he avoids it easily.
Peter McBain has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bert Ernie.
Ernie will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Ernie drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
McBain takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
McBain really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

McBain throws Ernie to one side and escapes!

McBain tries to sprawl but Ernie drives through with a takedown into half guard.

Ernie is looking for a kimura here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
McBain is trying to stand up here but Ernie is controlling him well.

Ernie seems to be trying to get a kimura but instead McBain has recovered full guard.
Ernie trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Ernie wants to control from the top but McBain keeps moving.
McBain is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Ernie slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
McBain is looking to stand up but Ernie isn't so interested in that idea.

Bert Ernie has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
McBain looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Ernie closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming McBain to the mat! McBain manages to get full guard.
Ernie postures up in McBain's guard and throws a big left but McBain blocks it.
McBain keeping moving, preventing Ernie from controlling successfully.
McBain avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Ernie stops McBain from standing up.

Ernie wants to control from the top but McBain keeps moving.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Ernie pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. McBain is keeping the position for now.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Bert Ernie wasn't active enough on the ground.
Ernie ducks down and throws a hook to the body but McBain moves away.
Ernie misses with a takedown attempt - McBain sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Bert Ernie seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
McBain throws a head kick that misses.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Ernie fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging McBain to the ground. Ernie is now in McBain's guard.
McBain keeping moving, preventing Ernie from controlling successfully.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bert Ernie dominated that round.
That's time! McBain's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Ernie changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. McBain tries to avoid it but Ernie manages to keep hold of a leg and drag McBain to the ground. McBain escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Peter McBain is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
No luck for Ernie with that takedown attempt.
McBain throws a head kick that misses.
Ernie shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Peter McBain has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bert Ernie.
McBain buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Ernie on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Ernie slaps away a takedown attempt from McBain, before circling back to the center of the mat.

McBain scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.


It looks like Bert Ernie has been cut.
McBain keeps the fight on the outside.
McBain misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Ernie tries to score a power double leg takedown but McBain sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Ernie somewhat.

McBain throws a sloppy head kick and Ernie moves out of range easily.
Ernie looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Ernie pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.

McBain lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Ernie at a distance.
McBain throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Ernie.
Ernie ducks down and throws a hook to the body but McBain moves away.

Ernie fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but McBain avoids it really well and circles away.
Ernie looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
McBain throws a head kick but Ernie moves out of range.
Ernie shoots for a takedown but McBain saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


McBain tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Ernie shoots for a takedown but McBain saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
McBain ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
McBain connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Ernie's hands.
Ernie is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
McBain misses with a jab to the body

and Ernie decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in McBain's guard.
Ernie missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Ernie wants to pass the guard but McBain is keeping the position.
Ernie takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
McBain is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Ernie is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! McBain is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! McBain has escaped and now he's on top!
McBain tries to stand but Ernie is controlling from the bottom.
Ernie working a defensive guard but McBain manages to pass into side control anyway.

Ernie tries to improve position but can't.
Ernie has one of McBain's arms on lockdown, trying to prevent him from doing any damage.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Bert Ernie was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Ernie shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has McBain pinned against the cage. McBain gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
McBain shoots in and drives through. Ernie sprawls well.
Ernie shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with McBain but McBain pushes him off and we're back to square one.

McBain defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Ernie.

McBain is looking to wear down Ernie with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
McBain stuffs the takedown attempt from Ernie. Ernie gets slowly back to his feet.
McBain lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by McBain.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Peter McBain.
I think McBain has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
