PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Matthew Phoenix (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Malcolm Lancaster (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Phoenix comes to the cage accompanied by Bath Salt- ASVP Rocky, A$ap ANT, flatbush zombies. Lancaster comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Bed Intruder kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Matthew Phoenix!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 17 - 0, fighting out of New York, Malcolm Lancaster!
The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, Alyssa Summers and Jonathan Paton.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Phoenix misses with a few strikes there.
Lancaster ducks under a wild hook from Phoenix.
Lancaster loads up on a big right hand but Phoenix slips the punch.
Phoenix throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Lancaster on the side of the head.

Lancaster rushes Phoenix and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Phoenix keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Lancaster's efforts to push away.
Phoenix misses with a punch on the inside.
Phoenix misses with a punch on the inside.
Lancaster blocks a body shot from Phoenix.
Phoenix prevents Lancaster from breaking the clinch.
Phoenix scores with a shoulder strike.
Lancaster tries to break the clinch but Phoenix is controlling the position.
Phoenix just leaning against Lancaster, taking a breather.
Phoenix swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Phoenix has Lancaster pushed against the cage.

Phoenix tries to work over Lancaster's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Phoenix is pushing Lancaster up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.

The referee is keeping an eye on Phoenix - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
Lancaster has a couple of punches blocked by Phoenix.
Phoenix stalls.
Phoenix wants to stall.
The ref breaks the fighters up, due to lack of action by Matthew Phoenix.
Lancaster tries to clinch up
and Phoenix cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

It looks like Matthew Phoenix has been cut.
Phoenix bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Lancaster's head backwards.
Lancaster looks to throw the jab but Phoenix is out of range.
Lancaster throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Phoenix doesn't manage to clinch there - Lancaster circles away.
Lancaster tries to clinch but Phoenix is having none of it.
Phoenix throws a low kick, looking for Lancaster's leg but Lancaster calmly moves out of range.
Phoenix displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.
Lancaster swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Lancaster tries to close the distance and clinch but Phoenix swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

and Phoenix counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Phoenix connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Lancaster looks to land a body kick but Phoenix moved away.
Lancaster misses with an uppercut. Phoenix saw that one coming.

Lancaster clinches up against the cage.

A short uppercut from Lancaster.
Phoenix lands a right hand.
Phoenix scores with an uppercut up the middle.
Phoenix's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Lancaster blocks a punch to the side of the head.
A bit of stalling here from Phoenix.

Lancaster breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Lancaster walks into a stiff left hand from Phoenix.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Lancaster tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Phoenix manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Lancaster blocks a punch to the side of the head.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.
Phoenix lands with a short punch from the clinch.
Phoenix tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Lancaster lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Phoenix backwards.
Phoenix with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
Phoenix tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
Phoenix lands a right hand that snaps the head of Lancaster backwards.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Lancaster breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Lancaster takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Lancaster goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Phoenix takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.
Phoenix lands with a short shot to the head.
Phoenix lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Lancaster.
Phoenix throws a head punch that misses.
A bit of stalling here from Phoenix.
Phoenix has a couple of punches blocked by Lancaster.
Phoenix tries to throw a body punch but Lancaster avoids it by throwing Phoenix back against the cage.

Phoenix digs a right hand into Lancaster's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Lancaster's gas tank.

Phoenix lands with a short punch from the clinch.

Lancaster has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Phoenix clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Phoenix trying to control the hands but Lancaster won't let him.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

I really don't envy Phoenix right now.
Phoenix is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.
Phoenix wriggles onto his back under a barage of strikes.

Matthew Phoenix's cut is getting worse.

Jeez, Matthew Phoenix's cut is really nasty now. The referee must be thinking about getting that checked.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Matthew Phoenix's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:41 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Malcolm Lancaster!
Malcolm Lancaster was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
