PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Victor Kang (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mitchell Hobson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Victor Kang!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mitchell Hobson!
The judges for this bout are , Jack Bonds and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hobson has taken the fight to the clinch.
Kang with an attempt at a knee that misses.
Kang can't break the clinch.
Hobson wants a takedown.
Kang is pressed up against the cage. Hobson has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Kang down to the mat. Kang avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Kang connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Hobson's hands.
Hobson on the wrong end of a nice hook.

Hobson clinches up with Kang and pushes him back against the cage.
Kang stalling against the cage.

Hobson works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Hobson thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Kang is looking to sweep but instead, Hobson has passed into half guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Kang wants to improve his position but Hobson is controlling well.
Kang won't allow Hobson to pass to mount.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hobson keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Hobson not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

Hobson seems to be working for a kimura but Kang defends the submission attempt.

Hobson is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Kang trying to control here.
Kang is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Hobson is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Hobson is working for a kimura but Kang is defending it quite comfortably.
Kang is trying to stand up here but Hobson is controlling him well.

Hobson scoring with strikes to the body and head.
Hobson moves nicely into side control.
Hobson wants to control but Kang is keeping him busy.
Hobson wants to take a breather but Kang manages to regain guard - a lesson learnt for Hobson.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Kang tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Hobson wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Kang is working hard here to advance position.

Hobson is working to tighten is grip on Kang's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Kang has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Hobson is really squeezing tight and eventually Kang passes out! Hobson breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:40 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Mitchell Hobson!
Mitchell Hobson decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
