PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jax Kutts (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and William Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kutts's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Save Me from Shinedown. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jax Kutts!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, William Johnson!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Trevor Gratis and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Johnson moves into the clinch successfully.
Kutts creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Johnson's defenses.


It looks like William Johnson has been cut.
Kutts lands a glancing elbow in the clinch.
Kutts tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Johnson tries to score a body lock takedown but Kutts shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Kutts has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Johnson is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Kutts throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Johnsons head.

Kutts pulls Johnson into guard.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Kutts is pulling down on Johnson's head. It's preventing any offense from Johnson, at least for the moment.
Johnson trying to control but Kutts is working from the bottom.

Kutts keeping full guard, as Johnson tries to pass.
Kutts preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Kutts is looking to stand up but Johnson isn't so interested in that idea.
Kutts looking to hit a scissor sweep but Johnson is one step ahead there.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Kutts tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Johnson manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Johnson rushes Kutts and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Johnson jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Kutts walks away with a smile on his face. Johnson gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
William Johnson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Kutts fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Johnson avoids it really well and circles away.
Johnson swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Kutts shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Johnson pinned against the cage. Johnson gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jax Kutts. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Kutts instigates a clinch.
Kutts misses with an elbow over the top.
Johnson looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Kutts has Johnson pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Johnson manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
A nice glancing elbow lands by Kutts.
Kutts throws an elbow but it misses.
Kutts drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Johnson gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Johnson misses with a punch to the body.

Kutts tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Johnson avoids it.

Johnson stalls.
Johnson tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Johnson is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Kutts to keep the fight standing.

A nice glancing elbow lands by Kutts.
Kutts is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Johnson pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Kutts can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Johnson controls the pace.
Kutts looking for a sweep. Not yet Kutts, not yet.

Kutts throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Kutts keeping moving, preventing Johnson from controlling successfully.
Johnson sitting in guard here, content to control.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Kutts is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Johnson drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Kutts manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Johnson has Kutts in his guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Jax Kutts will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on William Johnson's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Johnson takes the fight into the clinch.
Kutts lands an elbow inside that Johnson shrugs off.
Kutts tries for a takedown but Johnson manages to get underhooks.

Johnson tries to pull guard but Kutts won't allow it.
Kutts misses with an elbow over the top.
Johnson tries to work over Kutts's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.

Kutts jumps guard and drags Johnson to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Kutts is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Johnson is controlling him.
Johnson seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by William Johnson.

Johnson moves into the clinch.
A nice glancing elbow lands by Kutts.
Kutts lands a glancing elbow in the clinch.
A quick uppercut on the inside from Johnson.
Kutts unloads a knee to the mid-section. Johnson lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.

Kutts pulls Johnson into guard.
Johnson must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Johnson looking to sit in guard and control but Kutts gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Johnson is breathing heavily.
Kutts trying to control but Johnson is working from the bottom.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Kutts accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Kutts tries to free his leg and advance position but Johnson is retaining full guard.
Kutts throwing strikes from guard but Johnson blocks nicely.

Kutts in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Johnson wriggles free and stands up.

Johnson clinches up with Kutts and pushes him back against the cage.
Kutts lands a good knee to the midsection. Johnson won't want to take too many of those.

Kutts turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
Johnson is trying to escape the position but Kutts is controlling the position.
Kutts scores with a couple of short elbows.

Kutts working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Kutts is looking to take a break and control but Johnson is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Kutts controlling the position.
Kutts seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Johnson for as long as he can get away with.
Kutts's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!



Johnson moves into the clinch.
Johnson drops down looking for an ankle pick but Kutts pulls his leg out and moves away.
Jax Kutts is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Kutts fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Johnson, pushing him back against the cage.
Kutts lands a good knee to the midsection. Johnson won't want to take too many of those.
Kutts goes for a takedown in the clinch but Johnson prevents it.

Kutts pulls Johnson into guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Johnson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kutts swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Johnson takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Kutts wants to sweep here but Johnson controlling him for the moment.
Kutts seems keen to control Johnson's posture.

Johnson wants to control from the top but Kutts keeps moving.
Johnson looking to sit in guard and control but Kutts gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Kutts passes Johnson's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Kutts perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Johnson avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Kutts.

Kutts is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Johnson doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Kutts.
Kutts tries to pass the half guard into mount. Johnson knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Kutts is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Still in half guard, Kutts seems content to control.

Kutts is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Jax Kutts overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Kutts is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Johnson is just riding it out for now. Kutts eventually gives up the hold.
Johnson is looking to escape.
Jax Kutts is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Kutts content to control rather than advance.
Johnson is trying to stand.
Kutts is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jax Kutts showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Kutts, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
