PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between nat north (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Stephen Cook (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, nat north!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Stephen Cook!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, Colin Fotheringham and Donald Grub.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cook walks into a straight right hand from north.
Cook misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Cook steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from north. That one must have hurt.
Cook misses with a double jab.

north forces Cook back against the cage and clinches.
north with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head.
Cook has had enough of the clinch but north keeps him there for the moment.
north lands on the inside with an uppercut.
north keeps control of Cook as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Cook changes levels and goes for a takedown here. north fights it off and pushes away nicely.
north slips under a jab from Cook.
Cook rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but north moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
north tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Cook darts in trying to clinch

and north counters by moving into the clinch.

north breaks from the clinch.
Cook falls off balance throwing a combination

and north decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Cook's guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage!
north is pushing down on Cook's leg trying to pass to half guard. Cook is fighting to maintain full guard but north has managed to sneak the leg through.

Cook is trying to maintain the position but north is very close to passing his half guard.
north thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Cook wants to get back to his feet.
north wants to pass to mount but Cook is defending the position.

north works his foot free and advances to mount.
Cook really doesn't want to stay on the ground with north. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
north content just to control the position here.

north with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.

north is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Cook has managed to escape the submission attempt.

north looking to secure an arm triangle but Cook defends it well.
north looking to control but Cook is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

north swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Cook is now in north's guard. A big mistake from north there, giving up the dominant position!

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

The referee asks Cook politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Cook prefers to stall for the moment though.

Cook might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control north kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
north is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
north moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

north has his foot on Cook's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Cook works his way back into a safe position though.
Cook wants to stand but north has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Cook closes the distance looking to clinch

north prevents Cook from breaking the clinch.
Cook has had enough of the clinch but north keeps him there for the moment.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
north tries to score with a low kick but Cook moves his leg out of the way.
Cook fails to land with a series of punches.
Cook staying out of range there.
north misses with a combination
enabling Cook to counter with a crisp jab.
Cook is breathing heavily.
Cook finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.

north rushes Cook and presses him up against the cage.

north wants the takedown. Cook is fighting it off but north persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Cook's guard against the cage.
north forces his way into half guard.
Cook is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
nat north overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Cook is staying active underneath north, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
north looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Cook tries to push off, looking to stand up, but north manages to move to mount!
north fails to take his opponent's back.

north had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Cook is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. north Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Cook's back instead.

north is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Cook has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.

north has the hooks in and he's looking for a rear naked choke here. Cook is defending well but eventually north manages to get an arm under the chin and he's locked on the RNC! Cook has no choice but to tap now! He does! This one is all over!
