The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Simmons takes a kick to the side of the head.
Simmons paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Simmons takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Laurier scores with a shot to the body.

Laurier has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Laurier there as he acknowledges the shot.

Laurier tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Simmons tries to bum rush Laurier with a series of wild strikes but Laurier uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Laurier shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Simmons pinned against the cage. Simmons gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Wilfrid Laurier seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Laurier tries to score a power double leg takedown but Simmons sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Laurier somewhat.

Simmons misses with a straight right.
Laurier fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Simmons avoids it really well and circles away.
Maxim Simmons has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Wilfrid Laurier.

Simmons throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Laurier on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Laurier.

Laurier walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Simmons checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.

Laurier changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Simmons tries to avoid it but Laurier manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Simmons to the ground. Simmons escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Laurier throws a head kick that misses.
Simmons looks to throw the jab but Laurier is out of range.
Laurier scores with a slapping inside leg kick.

Simmons is hobbling a little on that front leg after taking quite a few leg kicks so far in this fight.

Simmons throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.

Oooooh!!! Simmons has knocked Laurier down with a huge combo! Simmons steps away and waves a wobbly Laurier back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!

It looks like Wilfrid Laurier has been cut.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Laurier takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.

Simmons drops Laurier with a huge uppercut! Laurier drops to the floor like a sack of potatoes. Simmons is raining down punches and the ref stops the fight! This one is all over!
