The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Laweni throws a jab when Lavins was well out of range.
Laweni throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Laweni defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Lavins.
Lavins shoots for a double leg takedown but Laweni sprawls well. He's pushed Lavins's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Laweni decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Lavins is in trouble now - Laweni has advanced to mount!
