PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Fredrick Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Porter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Fredrick Silva!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, John Porter!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Frank Antenori and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Porter misses with the combination.

Silva clinches.

Porter manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Silva throwing strikes from guard but Porter blocks nicely.
Porter really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Silva. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Silva stops Porter from standing up.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Porter holds on and takes a little breather.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Porter shoots in and drives through. Silva sprawls well.

Porter throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Silva tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Porter is in Silva's guard.

Silva is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Silva is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Porter defends it well.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Silva wants to stand but his hand is trapped. Porter uses the opportunity to regain full guard.
Silva is breathing heavily.
Porter looking to hit a scissor sweep but Silva is one step ahead there.
Silva is looking to stand up but Porter won't let him.

Silva advances position into side control!

Silva creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Porter sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Porter is trying to improve his position.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Porter can't do much from the bottom here.

Porter tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Porter is holding Silva down, trying to stall.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
You can see the frustration on Porter's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Silva tries to stand but Porter is controlling his head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Fredrick Silva will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Porter dives in and scores a takedown into Silva's guard.
Porter is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Silva is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The ref stands the fighters back up. John Porter was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Silva throws a head kick that misses.

Porter closes the distance and pushes Silva back into the cage.
Silva is trying to break the clinch but Porter has him pressed against the cage.
Silva is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Porter is defending well for now.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Porter is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Silva pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Porter wants to take the fight to the mat but Silva manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Porter wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Silva has him pressed against the cage.
Porter tries to break the clinch but Silva is controlling the position.
Porter is trying to drag Silva to the mat but Silva just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Fredrick Silva has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Porter.

Porter has picked Silva up - he's going for a ride! Porter dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.

Silva is doing well to control the position and prevent Porter from advancing to side control.

The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Fredrick Silva.
Silva lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Silva lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Porter shoots in for a takedown but Silva shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Porter clinches.

Porter has Silva pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Porter pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Silva tumbling to the mat - Porter dives into Silva's guard.

Silva is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Porter wanted to stand there but Silva had control of the position.
Porter trying to control the position from guard on top but Silva is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Fredrick Silva wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Porter shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Silva pinned against the cage. Silva gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Porter showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.



Porter closes the distance and clinches.
Silva looks to throw an elbow but misses.
Porter wants to take the fight to the mat but Silva manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Porter changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Silva fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Porter misses with a hook to the body
and Silva counters with a nice low kick that buckles Porter's knee momentarily.
Fredrick Silva is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
A combination from Porter does no damage.
Silva fails with an attempt to clinch.
Porter misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Fredrick Silva has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Porter.
Silva wants to clinch up but Porter keeps it at a distance.
Porter takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Porter.

and Silva counters with a straight right hand.
Silva throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Porter's head.
Silva feints a jab promting Porter to slip. Silva then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Porter slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Porter works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.

Silva lands a high kick!
Porter shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Silva connects with a high kick.
Silva tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Porter swivels and escapes.

Porter closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Silva is trying to force a seperation but Porter has the dominant position.
Porter jumps guard but Silva turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

Silva breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Porter looks for a takedown but Silva sprawls well.

Silva throws a nice head kick!
Silva is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Silva defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Porter.
Nice sprawl there from Silva as Porter shoots in.
Silva shoots in but no luck this time.

Porter drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Silva has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Silva is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Porter tries to pass to full mount but Silva defends it.
Silva tries to roll over but Porter keeps him under control.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up. John Porter was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Porter drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Fredrick Silva.
I think Silva has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
