PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Carls Alfonso Figarella Z (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sin Cara (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Carls Alfonso Figarella Z!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Sin Cara!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, John Mangel and Damien Edna.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Cara shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Figarella Z manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Cara postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Figarella Z has a closed guard, preventing Cara from standing up.
Cara is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Cara cracks Figarella Z with a solid left hand.
Cara in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Cara throwing strikes from guard but Figarella Z blocks nicely.

Cara engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Cara has eaten all the pies!

The ref stands the fighters back up. Sin Cara was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Figarella Z closes the distance and clinches.

Cara breaks from the clinch.
No joy there for Figarella Z, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Figarella Z shoots for a takedown but Cara saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Cara ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.

Cara throws a combination that misses
and Figarella Z counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Cara is lucky that one didn't land flush.
Cara moves out of range of the body kick from Figarella Z.
Figarella Z throws a series of punches but Cara moves out of range.
Figarella Z is breathing heavily.
Cara's jab looks to have found its range, popping Figarella Z under the eye.
Figarella Z fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Figarella Z gets caught napping as Cara dives in and scores a takedown. Figarella Z manages to retain guard.

Cara wants to get up but he can't break Figarella Z's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Cara moves into full mount! Figarella Z won't be happy about that!

Cara lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.

Cara is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Figarella Z is surviving well by controlling Cara's body position as best he can.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sin Cara dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Cara closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Cara lands in his opponent's guard.
Cara wanted to stand there but Figarella Z had control of the position.

Figarella Z is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Cara seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

Sin Cara has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Cara lands a slapping body shot.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Cara blocks a head kick by Figarella Z.

Cara moves into the clinch.

Cara has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Figarella Z is trying to keep an underhook but Cara manages to get the takedown into half guard.

Figarella Z is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Cara scores with a couple of nice shots.

Cara tries to stand and escape but Figarella Z is controlling the position.
Cara frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Cara pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.

Cara tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Figarella Z is bucking up trying to escape but Cara cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Cara avoids the attempt from Figarella Z to control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sin Cara showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!



Cara scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Cara takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Cara shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Cara was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Figarella Z is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.

Cara wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Figarella Z, who protects the arm well.
Cara controls the position from side control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Cara's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

Cara decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Carls Alfonso Figarella Z is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Cara has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Cara throws a head kick that Figarella Z semi-blocks.


It looks like Carls Alfonso Figarella Z has been cut.

Cara is staying tight to Figarella Z's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Carls Alfonso Figarella Z has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Let's hope that Cara has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

And that's the end of the fight!
Sin Cara comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Cara has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
