PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jeff Jeckyll (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Romuald Koscirupski (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Romuald Koscirupski told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jeff Jeckyll!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Romuald Koscirupski!
The judges for this bout are Konstantin Menshow, Viktor Lagutenko and Igor Prikhodko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jeckyll shoots in but Koscirupski avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Koscirupski stuns Jeckyll with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
A telegraphed right hand from Koscirupski misses the target.
Jeckyll slips a jab from Koscirupski.
Jeckyll drops his hands momentarily and Koscirupski takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Koscirupski throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Jeckyll stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Koscirupski lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Koscirupski throws a jab when Jeckyll was well out of range.
Jeckyll takes one to the chin there.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Koscirupski lands a left hand that snaps the head of Jeckyll backwards.

Koscirupski jumps guard and drags Jeckyll to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Jeckyll is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Jeckyll trying to control the position from guard on top but Koscirupski is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Jeckyll drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Koscirupski dives on top into guard.
Koscirupski must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Jeckyll seems a little lost for a moment, as Koscirupski dominates the positioning.

Koscirupski is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Jeckyll will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

Koscirupski tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Koscirupski has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

This has been an exciting period of action!
Jeckyll is in a horrible position here. Koscirupski smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Koscirupski stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Koscirupski wants it to stay on the feet.

Koscirupski slaps away a takedown attempt from Jeckyll, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Koscirupski throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Jeckyll sees it coming and avoids it easily.
A slow jab from Koscirupski misses its intended target.
Jeckyll shoots in looking for a takedown but Koscirupski manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Jeckyll's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Romuald Koscirupski wasn't active enough on the ground.
Jeckyll has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Koscirupski finds it's way round the side to connect with Jeckyll's head.
Jeckyll uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Koscirupski.
Koscirupski tests Jeckyll's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Koscirupski feints a jab promting Jeckyll to slip. Koscirupski then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Jeckyll slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.

Koscirupski throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Jeckyll avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Jeckyll tries for a takedown but Koscirupski sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Jeckyll gets cracked there but stands up to it.

Jeckyll shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

Koscirupski is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

Koscirupski has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Romuald Koscirupski showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Jeckyll looks to score with a jab to the body but Koscirupski is just out of range.

Koscirupski has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Jeckyll clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
Jeckyll grimaces as he takes a shot to the body.
Koscirupski is controlling his opponent, waiting for an opportunity to finish.
Let's hope that Koscirupski has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Koscirupski is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. Koscirupski gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Koscirupski gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Koscirupski apologises and we restart here on the feet.

This is turning into a torrid day at the office for Jeckyll. He's trying desperately to land a takedown but he's failing miserably and getting slapped silly on the feet to compound his misery.
Still in the clinch, Koscirupski scores with a nice short uppercut.
Koscirupski lands a right hand that snaps the head of Jeckyll backwards.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Romuald Koscirupski comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Koscirupski has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
