PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Brett Barnes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and King Cobra (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cobra comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Rooster kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Brett Barnes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, King Cobra!
The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, David Schapiro and Dean Styles.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Decent striking displayed by Barnes there.
Barnes misses with a looping left.

Cobra drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Cobra tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Barnes sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.

Cobra has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Barnes wants to improve his position but Cobra is controlling well.
Cobra wants to lay and pray for a moment but Barnes keeps working.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Cobra seems to be working for a kimura but Barnes defends the submission attempt.
Barnes works his way to full guard. Good work.

Barnes controls Cobra momentarily but Cobra frees himself.

Cobra drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Cobra jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Barnes has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Cobra can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Barnes tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Barnes misses with a double jab.
No joy there for Barnes, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Cobra looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Barnes!

Barnes is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.
Barnes is breathing heavily.

Cobra moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Barnes has worked his arm free - good work by Barnes!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Barnes pushes Cobra off but Cobra dives into side control.

Cobra wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Barnes, who protects the arm well.
Barnes is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Cobra tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Cobra lands an elbow.

Cobra tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Cobra has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Cobra wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Barnes, who protects the arm well.
Barnes knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Cobra on the ground.

Cobra is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Barnes knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Cobra moves into full mount!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

King Cobra dominated that round.

Barnes loads up on a big right hand but Cobra slips the punch.

Cobra changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Barnes looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Cobra thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Cobra is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Barnes is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Cobra wants to lay and pray for a moment but Barnes keeps working.
Cobra throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
Barnes sneaks back into half guard.

Cobra is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Cobra stops Barnes from getting back to his feet.
The fighters are battling for position here. Barnes manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Cobra accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Cobra cracks Barnes with a solid left hand.

Cobra drops back looking for a submission - "I'm sorry sir, but I'm gunna break your leg" says Cobra as he cranks on the unfortunate limb! Barnes screams and taps out before any major damage is done! Don't mess with Cobra! Nice submission victory there!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:04 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kneebar). King Cobra!
