Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Lionel Evans!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Bill Penn!
The judges for this bout are Roger Salmon, Ryoma Takatsuka and Josh West.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Evans tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Penn swivels and escapes.
Evans misses with a wild combination.
Evans fails with an attempt to clinch.
Evans has a takedown stuffed.
Penn gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Evans counters with a nice body shot.
Penn shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Evans as he jumps to the side.
Penn closes this distance looking for a takedown but Evans circles away.
Lionel Evans has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bill Penn.
Evans tries to clinch but Penn moves out of range.
Evans stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Evans wants it to stay on the feet.
Penn shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Evans as he jumps to the side.
Penn looks for a takedown but Evans sprawls well.

Evans working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Penn's head.

Penn preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Penn is looking for a triangle but Evans pushes his legs off easily.
Evans passes Penn's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Evans frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Evans can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Penn is looking to escape.

Evans looking for a guillotine from mount but Penn is having none of it.

Penn swinging wildly from the bottom but he's not landing.
Evans controlling from mount.
Penn wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back.
Penn is defending well here and trying to improve his position.
Penn controlling the position well but he knows he's in a bad position.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Evans controlling well, preventing Penn from escaping the position.

Evans working for a choke but Penn is defending well.
Penn looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.

Evans is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Penn defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.
Evans scores with punches from the back.

Penn manages to escape to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Penn scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Evans tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Penn wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Evans defending against the ground and pound.

Penn wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Evans, who protects the arm well.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Evans struggling a bit here.
Evans is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Evans is not content to let Penn control the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Penn stuffs the takedown.
Penn shoots for a double leg takedown but Evans sprawls well. He's pushed Penn's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Penn shoots in for a takedown but Evans shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Penn shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Evans manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Evans looking to control but Penn passes into half guard.

Penn is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Penn wants to pass to mount but Evans is defending the position.
Evans looks like he's trying to stand up.

Penn passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Evans!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Penn prevents Evans from getting the reversal.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Penn avoids the attempt from Evans to control.
Penn lands a big shot there that rocks Evans but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

Penn is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Evans is surviving well by controlling Penn's body position as best he can.
Evans is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.

Penn lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Evans wants to control but Penn is having none of it.
Penn tries to control but Evans wriggling away.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Penn jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Evans manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Evans is trying to control Penn's posture but Penn avoids it.

Penn lands a decent elbow from side control.
Penn cracks Evans with a big elbow.
Penn working the body and head with strikes.


Evans is rocked!
Penn creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
Oh Evans is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!

Penn looks up at the clock and then as Evans takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Penn smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Evans seems a little lost for a moment, as Penn dominates the positioning.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Penn has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Evans is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Penn yanks on the arm and Evans is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Penn.
