PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Mike Ross (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Friedrich Nietzsche (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ross's entrance music is Neck of the Woods. A fine choice. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mike Ross!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Friedrich Nietzsche!
The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, Columbo Gatti and Franklyn Lucas.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ross shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Ross was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Nietzsche is looking to reverse the position.

Ross creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Nietzsche sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

Nietzsche tries to bench press Ross off him but Ross keeps the position.

Ross wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Nietzsche, who protects the arm well.
Ross throws a strike aimed at the side of Nietzsche's head but Nietzsche avoids it well.

Nietzsche avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Ross.
Nietzsche is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Ross is one step ahead and moves to full mount!

Ross can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Nietzsche is looking to escape.

Ross sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Nietzsche shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Ross pinned against the cage. Ross gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Nietzsche uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Ross.

Ross throws the left hand but Nietzsche avoids the punch easily.

Ross seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Nietzsche does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Ross defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Nietzsche.

Nietzsche changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Ross tries to avoid it but Nietzsche manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Ross to the ground. Ross escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Ross tries to bum rush Nietzsche with a series of wild strikes but Nietzsche uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Ross will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Mike Ross.

so Ross counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Ross throws an elbow that misses. Nietzsche uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Ross's guard. Nice move by Nietzsche!

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Mike Ross.
Well Ross has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
