Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Vladimir Volkovniakoiv (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Frank Mir (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Volkovniakoiv comes to the cage accompanied by Russian National Anthem - Rock Version. There are an array of beautiful celebrities at ringside tonight! I wonder if any of them paid for their tickets.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Frank Mir!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Gwen Towbar and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Volkovniakoiv looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Mir!

Volkovniakoiv is trying to get an arm triangle but Mir is defending well.
Volkovniakoiv trying to control the position but Mir is working away.
Volkovniakoiv tries to move into full mount but can't pass Mir's legs.
Mir struggling a bit here.
A lull in the action here as Volkovniakoiv stalls from top position.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Volkovniakoiv is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Mir knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Mir tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Mir holds on to Volkovniakoiv's head and controls the position momentarily.

Mir is letting Volkovniakoiv control him for a moment.

Volkovniakoiv is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Mir has escaped the position, nice work there.
Volkovniakoiv controls the position.

Volkovniakoiv is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Mir knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Volkovniakoiv tries for a kimura but Mir is defending well.
Volkovniakoiv wants to control but Mir is keeping him busy.

Volkovniakoiv swings around for an armbar but Mir sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Volkovniakoiv's guard.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Mir trying to control but Volkovniakoiv is working from the bottom.
Volkovniakoiv will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Volkovniakoiv is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Mir is holding on to half guard well.
Mir is staying active underneath Volkovniakoiv, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Mir is doing well to control the position and prevent Volkovniakoiv from advancing to side control.
Volkovniakoiv is trying to control. Mir wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Volkovniakoiv is working for a submission of some sort.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Volkovniakoiv seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Mir does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Volkovniakoiv is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Mir doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Volkovniakoiv.
Mir should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
The fighters are battling for position here. Mir manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Volkovniakoiv stays in close to Mir's body and controls the position.
Volkovniakoiv postures up.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Mir holds on and takes a little breather.
Volkovniakoiv trying to control the position from guard on top but Mir is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Mir is trying to keep Volkovniakoiv in close.

We're going to have a standup here because Vladimir Volkovniakoiv wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Volkovniakoiv wants to control but Mir is keeping him busy.
Volkovniakoiv is really struggling to control Mir but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Mir is looking to control Volkovniakoiv's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Mir avoid being mounted?

Volkovniakoiv is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Mir wants to control but Volkovniakoiv is keeping busy.
Mir works his way to full guard. Good work.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Mir is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Volkovniakoiv controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Volkovniakoiv stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Mir swivels though and keeps the full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Vladimir Volkovniakoiv dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Volkovniakoiv rushes Mir and presses him up against the cage.

Volkovniakoiv has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Mir uses from the top position.

Mir has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Volkovniakoiv to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Mir is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Volkovniakoiv pulls down on the head and he's put Mir to sleep! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:32 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Vladimir Volkovniakoiv!
After the fight, Vladimir Volkovniakoiv was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
