PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Tyson Brown (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sam Diaz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Tyson Brown!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Sam Diaz!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Ian Loll and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Brown misses with a body kick.

Brown shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Brown is pressing down on Diaz's thigh, looking to free his foot. Diaz is holding on for now.
Diaz wants to get back to full guard.
Brown blocks the strikes from Diaz.
Diaz has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Brown is working away from the top position though.
The fighters are battling for position here. Diaz manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Brown advances position into side control!
Brown taking a break here but Diaz is having none of it and regains half guard.

Diaz is refusing to be controlled, as Brown sits in half guard.
Brown stalling.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Diaz is positioning himself well to prevent Brown advancing to mount.
Diaz has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Brown is working away from the top position though.
Brown really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Diaz tries to get to full guard but Brown has control of the leg.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Brown tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Diaz swivels and escapes.
Brown swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.

Diaz gets caught napping as Brown dives in and scores a takedown. Diaz manages to retain guard.
Brown slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Diaz prevents Brown from improving position.

Diaz is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Brown off and has taken his back!
The referee is taking a good look at Brown as he is on the wrong end of some big shots from Diaz!
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Brown trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble.

Diaz gets his hands free as Brown looks to control.
Despite being in a bad position, Brown is controlling the hands, preventing any submission attempts.
Brown is really stuck here.
Brown is breathing heavily.
The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Diaz's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Brown wants to control his opponent's hands but Diaz gets his hands free.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Diaz tries to keep control of the position but Brown is staying busy.
Brown tries to break free.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Tyson Brown will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Nice takedown defense from Diaz. No joy for Brown on that attempt.
Diaz is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Brown.
Brown is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Brown looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Tyson Brown is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Diaz tries to close the distance and clinch but Brown swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Diaz fails with the takedown.
Diaz avoids a kick to the body.
Brown shoots in but Diaz avoids the takedown attempt easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tyson Brown. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Diaz shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Diaz was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Diaz works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Diaz looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Brown is avoiding damage well.
Sam Diaz has got the better of the ground game so far.
Diaz remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Brown is not content to let Diaz control the position.
Brown is trying to control Diaz's posture but Diaz avoids it.
Brown is looking for a sweep.

Diaz decides to stand up, so the ref orders Brown to his feet.
Diaz shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Brown as he jumps to the side.
Diaz throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Brown scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.

Brown working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Diaz is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Who's going to make the next move?
Brown is staying tight to Diaz's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Diaz is looking to regain half guard here but Brown keeps moving and retains side control.

Brown misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

Brown avoids the strikes from the bottom by Diaz.
Diaz is trying to buck Brown off.
Brown is looking to take a break and control but Diaz is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Brown is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Diaz's shoulder. That is not cool.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sam Diaz showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Diaz slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Brown takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Brown fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Diaz checks a leg kick.
Diaz shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Brown as he jumps to the side.

Brown gets caught flat footed, as Diaz shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Brown avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Brown is controlling Diaz's posture.
Diaz trying to control the position from guard on top but Brown is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Diaz stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Brown swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Brown wants to sweep here but Diaz controlling him for the moment.
Diaz trying to control but Brown is working from the bottom.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Sam Diaz wasn't active enough on the ground.
Danga de danga de dang - Diaz scores with a four punch combination!
Brown tries to close the distance and clinch but Diaz swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Diaz tries to bum rush Brown with a series of wild strikes but Brown uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Diaz takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
No luck for Brown with that takedown attempt.

Diaz looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Brown!
Brown tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck.
Brown takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Brown really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Diaz landing punches.

Diaz fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Diaz tries to control but Brown wriggling away.

Brown is squirming around, avoiding Diaz's attempts to control the action.
Brown wants to hold on but Diaz pushes him away.
Brown is trying desperately to improve position.

Diaz takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Diaz stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.
Diaz throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.
Brown has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Brown uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Diaz.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Diaz closes the distance and clinches.
Diaz is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Brown gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

And that's the end of the fight!
Sam Diaz comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Diaz has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3 rounds of action, we go to the scorecards for a decision.
