Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jin Makarov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Reijo Kosk!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Gregory Folan and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kosk wants to clinch up but Makarov keeps it at a distance.
Makarov stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Makarov wants it to stay on the feet.
Kosk misses with a takedown attempt - Makarov sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Kosk closes the distance but Makarov moves to the side
and Makarov counters with a two punch combo.

Jin Makarov has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Reijo Kosk.

Makarov pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Kosk has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Makarov tries to pull guard but Kosk forces him back to his feet, against the cage.

Makarov scores with a shoulder strike.
Kosk drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Makarov gets the underhooks and prevents it.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Makarov takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.

Kosk looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Kosk is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Makarov to keep the fight standing.
Makarov tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Kosk avoids it.
Makarov drops down looking for an ankle pick but Kosk pulls his leg out and moves away.
Makarov goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.

Kosk dives in and grabs Makarov's left leg, looking for a takedown. Makarov pushes down on Kosk's head and hops out.
Kosk is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Makarov tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Kosk swivels and escapes.
Kosk darts in trying to clinch
and Makarov counters with a left and a right that stings Kosk.
Kosk throws the kick towards the body but Makarov avoids it.

Makarov shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Kosk is trying to defend but Makarov finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Kosk tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
Well, if Makarov is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Makarov seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Kosk for as long as he can get away with.

Makarov scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Makarov works his way into full mount!
Kosk is looking to get to half guard.

Makarov has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Kosk with a lazy takedown attempt

so Makarov counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Makarov stops Kosk from standing up.
Makarov wants to control from the top but Kosk keeps moving.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Makarov trying to stand up but can't free himself from Kosk's guard.
Makarov cracks Kosk with a solid left hand.
Makarov's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Makarov's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Jin Makarov.
Kosk shoots and misses

and Makarov counters with a nice double leg into side control. Kosk won't be happy with that.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Makarov is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

Kosk is breathing heavily.
Makarov tries to move to mount but Kosk blocks the move with his legs.

Makarov slows the pace down.
Makarov is working Kosk over with some ground and pound from side control.
Makarov lands a few punches from side control.

Kosk is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Makarov asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Makarov stands up and we're back to a striking position.

and Makarov counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Makarov.

Makarov has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Kosk after a bit of a struggle.

Kosk takes an elbow to the forehead.

Makarov has Kosk pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Makarov pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Kosk tumbling to the mat - Makarov dives into Kosk's guard.
Makarov stays in close to Kosk's body and controls the position.

Kosk throws his legs up looking for a submission but Makarov uses it to pass to side control.
Makarov cracks Kosk with a big right hand but Kosk just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Makarov advances to full mount.
Makarov controlling the pace for now.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Kosk with a lazy takedown attempt

Reijo Kosk seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Kosk tries to clinch but Makarov moves out of range.
Makarov shoots in and drives through. Kosk sprawls well.
Kosk pushes Makarov away with a front kick.

and Makarov counters with a shoot takedown. Kosk fights it but they end up in guard.
Makarov is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Kosk can do to turn this around?
Kosk wants to control the position but Makarov says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Makarov moves into full mount! Kosk won't be happy about that!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Makarov prevents Kosk from getting the reversal.

Kosk takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Makarov controlling from the full mount.
Makarov landing strikes from the mount and Kosk is in trouble!

Makarov has control of Kosk's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Kosk regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Kosk is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Makarov sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.

Makarov knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Kosk on the ground.

Makarov jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Kosk manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Jin Makarov overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Kosk gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Makarov pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Reijo Kosk has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Jin Makarov is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Kosk is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Well Makarov has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
