Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Blake Savage (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jackson Wholequist (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Savage comes to the cage accompanied by Savage Garden - I Want You. Wholequist has chosen 'Extreme Ways' by Moby as his entrance music. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jackson Wholequist!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Tiny Johnson and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Savage shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Wholequist drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Wholequist wants to control from the top but Savage keeps moving.
Wholequist pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Savage is keeping the position for now.

Wholequist thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Wholequist trying to control the position from guard on top but Savage is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Wholequist slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Savage tries to improve position but can't.

Wholequist is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Savage has escaped the position, nice work there.

Savage is not content to let Wholequist control the position.
Savage sneaks back into half guard.

Wholequist is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Savage defends it well.

Wholequist is looking to advance position but Savage won't allow it.
Savage is looking to improve his position.
Wholequist has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Still in half guard, Wholequist seems content to control.
Savage wants to improve his position but Wholequist is controlling well.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Savage bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Wholequist throws a couple of punches but he's in a bad position and they don't land.
Wholequist sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Wholequist moves into full guard.
Savage stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Wholequist swivels though and keeps the full guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Wholequist is on top in guard.
Wholequist makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Wholequist thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Wholequist drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Wholequist jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Wholequist lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Wholequist postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Wholequist drops back looking for a leg! Savage is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Savage manages to kick Wholequist off! Wholequist jumps back into Savage's guard.
Wholequist wants to control from the top but Savage keeps moving.

Savage is looking for a triangle but Wholequist pushes his legs off easily.

Wholequist thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Savage is rocked!

Wholequist is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Savage can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Oh Savage is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Savage regains half guard.
Wholequist is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Wholequist lands a big shot there that rocks Savage but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

Wholequist throws some shoulder strikes here and then postures up. Oh, he's gone for an armbar! Savage has his hands clasped together but Wholequist breaks the hold and Savage is forced to tap! This one is aaaaaaaaaaall over! That was lightning fast by Wholequist!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:04 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Jackson Wholequist!
