PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Temel Dilli (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cody Duncan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Temel Dilli!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Konstantin Menshow, Aleksandr Martynov and Ivan Kurochkin.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Duncan is defended easily by Dilli.

Dilli gets a clinch.
Dilli misses with a punch to the body.
Dilli goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Duncan blocks an uppercut.
Dilli goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
A short left from Dilli.
Duncan is working for takedown but Dilli is calmly controlling the position for now.
Duncan is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Dilli to keep the fight standing.
Temel Dilli has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Cody Duncan.
Dilli tries to work over Duncan's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.

No joy there for Dilli, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Dilli loads up on a big right hand but Duncan slips the punch.
Nice straight punches there by Dilli. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Dilli.

and Dilli moves into the clinch.
Dilli misses with the head strike.
Dilli misses with a hook to the ribs.
Duncan misses with a punch on the inside.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.

A hook to the body from Dilli.
Duncan tries to circle away but Dilli has him pinned against the cage.
Duncan wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
A quick uppercut on the inside from Dilli.
Dilli struggles to land a body shot inside as Duncan controls his hands.
Duncan jumps guard but Dilli turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Dilli misses with a hook from the clinch.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Dilli makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.
Duncan is looking to break free of the clinch but Dilli has double underhooks.
Duncan blocks a body shot from Dilli.

Duncan manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Duncan has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Dilli is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Duncan.
Dilli is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Duncan is trying to improve his position.

Duncan manages to work his way to half guard, despite Dilli's best efforts.
Duncan tries to roll over but Dilli keeps him under control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Duncan is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Dilli content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Temel Dilli will probably get the nod.

Dilli throws out a loose jab but Duncan uses good head movement to avoid it.
Dilli thows a body shot but no joy.
A combination from Duncan does no damage.
Dilli misses the jab.
Duncan tries for a takedown but Dilli circles away easily
and Dilli counters with a stiff right hand.

Duncan fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Dilli, pushing him back against the cage.
Dilli throws a punch but it's blocked by Duncan.
Duncan tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Dilli is working Duncan over against the cage.
Dilli misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Duncan tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Dilli smiles and moves away.

Dilli tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Duncan manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Duncan tries to score with a low kick but Dilli moves his leg out of the way.
Dilli cracks Duncan with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Duncan dives in and grabs Dilli's left leg, looking for a takedown. Dilli pushes down on Duncan's head and hops out.

Dilli tries a body shot but Duncan blocks it.
Dilli lands a body punch.
A frustrated look appears on Duncan's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Duncan makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Duncan.

Duncan has his foot on Dilli's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Dilli works his way back into a safe position though.

Duncan has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Dilli doesn't defend quickly enough and Duncan has managed to lock this one up! Can Dilli escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Duncan on a fantastic submission victory.

After winning the bout, Cody Duncan thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
