PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Zanderson Zilva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Randolph Swartz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Zanderson Zilva!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Randolph Swartz!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Ian Loll and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Swartz throws a series of punches but Zilva avoids them all with ease.
Zilva throws a head kick that misses.
Zilva thows a left - swing and a miss!
Zilva thows a body shot but no joy.
Swartz misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Zilva.

Zilva gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Zilva is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Swartz is defending well.
Swartz has had enough of the clinch but Zilva keeps him there for the moment.
A battle for position here, against the cage.
Swartz is looking to break free of the clinch but Zilva has double underhooks.

Zilva's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Zilva has managed to clinch.
Swartz lands with a right to the head.
Swartz wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Zilva is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Swartz pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
A jab from Swartz misses.
Zilva takes one on the button.


It looks like Zanderson Zilva has been cut.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Zilva misses with a double jab.
Swartz getting the better of the striking in that exchange.

That's one minute gone in the round.
The fighters circling - Zilva throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Swartz swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Zilva keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Swartz.
Zilva lands a jab.
Swartz thows a body shot but no joy.

Swartz feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Swartz working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Zilva is looking for a triangle but Swartz pushes his legs off easily.
Swartz trying to control the position from guard on top but Zilva is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Zilva has an active guard here but Swartz has managed to pass into half guard.
Swartz throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Zilva is not content to let Swartz control the position.
Swartz is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Swartz forces the positional change into back control.

Swartz is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Zilva knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Zilva for a finish.
Swartz has Zilva flattened out and is raining down punches.
Swartz tries to get the hooks in deep but Zilva pushed the leg off.
Swartz missing with punches from the back.
Zilva is defending well here and trying to improve his position.
Swartz wants to control but Zilva is keeping busy.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Swartz is working for the choke. I would put my money on him to finish from this position. He's rolled onto his back and has dragged Zilva with him. Zilva is trying to defend but Swartz has an arm under the chin now! Zilva grimaces and is forced to tap out!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:21 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Randolph Swartz!
Randolph Swartz decided to thank the fans in attendance for making a great atmosphere. It seemed to go down pretty well.
