Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Mike van Zee (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pete Sproles (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sproles has chosen can't be touched -Roy Jones Jr as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, James Glass and Chris Edwards.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sproles fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Sproles shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
van Zee displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Sproles throws out the jab.
van Zee looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Sproles is fending him off so far but van Zee persists. Nope, Sproles circles away and we're back to standing.
Sproles fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
van Zee has his takedown stuffed
and Sproles counters with a lovely shot to the body.
van Zee shoots in and drives through. Sproles sprawls well.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mike van Zee. That's going to take a lot out of him.
No joy there for Sproles, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
van Zee scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
van Zee tries to advance to mount but Sproles denies him.
Sproles is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked van Zee off and has taken his back!
Sproles is trying to stick to van Zee's back but van Zee is turning into Sproles. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Sproles's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by van Zee.
van Zee won't allow Sproles to get back to his feet.
Sproles really doesn't want to stay on the ground with van Zee. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Sproles is trying to control the position but van Zee postures up.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Excellent takedown into side control there by van Zee.
Sproles gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
van Zee can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Sproles is looking to escape.
van Zee controlling the pace for now.
van Zee goes for an armbar but Sproles turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Sproles.
Sproles must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

van Zee has his foot on Sproles's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Sproles works his way back into a safe position though.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
van Zee pushes a forearm under Sproles's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Sproles is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:46 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Mike van Zee!
