The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Russell looking for a takedown here - he's got it.

Kubiak can't keep his opponent in guard - Russell advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Russell takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Russell is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Russell wants to free his trapped foot but Kubiak is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Russell content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

Russell is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Kubiak doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Russell.
Russell is nestled in close to Kubiak, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Diego Russell wasn't active enough on the ground.

Kubiak is breathing heavily.

Kubiak gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Russell to score an easy takedown into full guard.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
