PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tony Mendez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Buster Grimes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Grimes is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: THE JOKER. Buster Grimes told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 42 - 20 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Tony Mendez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 24 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Buster Grimes!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Frank Dennis and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mendez misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Grimes.
Grimes throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Mendez shoots in looking for a takedown but Grimes manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Mendez's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Mendez throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Grimes tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Grimes lands with an overhand left.
Grimes slips a jab from Mendez.
Mendez misses with a double jab
and Grimes counters with a straight right hand.
Mendez lands with an uppercut that bounces Grimes off the cage and back into range.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Grimes lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.

Mendez fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Grimes sprawls well initially but Mendez persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Mendez is looking for a kimura here.
Grimes is looking for a sweep. Mendez is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Grimes holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.
Grimes trying to control but Mendez postures up.
Grimes is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Mendez throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Grimes to regain full guard.
Mendez looking to sit in guard and control but Grimes gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Mendez controlling the position.
Grimes trying to control but Mendez is working from the bottom.
Mendez pulls Grimes in close to prevent any damage.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Grimes stays in close to Mendez's body and controls the position.
Mendez not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Grimes checks a leg kick nicely.
Tony Mendez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Good leg kick by Grimes there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Mendez looks to land a combination but Grimes avoids it well.
Mendez throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Mendez tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Grimes was well out of range. Poor timing from Mendez.
Grimes lands with an uppercut that bounces Mendez off the cage and back into range.
Some wild striking there from Mendez.
Grimes lands a jab to the nose.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Grimes lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Grimes scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Mendez doesn't seem bothered though.
Mendez fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Grimes manages to avoid it.
Grimes scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Mendez is looking to wear down Grimes with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
Mendez looks to score with a jab to the body but Grimes is just out of range.

Grimes lands a big right hand that sends Mendez crashing to the mat! Grimes stays standing though and waves Mendez back to his feet!


Mendez is rocked!
Buster Grimes is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Grimes drops a shoulder and throws a monster hook that connects perfectly to the side of Mendez's head, knocking him out cold! Grimes is extatic as he celebrates with his cornermen.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:34 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Buster Grimes!
Buster Grimes gave a mention to STEEL PENN'S 160 OF STEEL $50 Hilo in his post fight interview. That will please them (and hopefully generate some sales).
