The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gutierrez fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Richmond tries for a takedown but Gutierrez sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Richmond wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.

Richmond gets caught flat footed, as Gutierrez shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Jose Manuel Gutierrez hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Gutierrez stuffs the takedown attempt from Richmond. Richmond gets slowly back to his feet.

Richmond fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Gutierrez, pushing him back against the cage.

Gutierrez drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Richmond has hold of one of Gutierrez's legs. Gutierrez is fighting the takedown attempt but Richmond gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

Richmond feints and as Gutierrez raises his hands in defense, Richmond changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Gutierrez has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Richmond is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Gutierrez.
