The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Emerson Jorge and Daniel Cesar.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hartmann tries to clinch
and Thesz counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Hartmann's guard now.
Hartmann has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Thesz can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Thesz works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Thesz not doing much here.
Hartmann tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
Hartmann tries to get to full guard but Thesz has control of the leg.
Thesz has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Thesz with shots to the head and body - Hartmann looks very uncomfortable down there.
Hartmann knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Thesz on the ground.

Well, with Thesz on his back, surely it's only a matter of time before Hartmann is tapping out... Can he escape the position?
Thesz lands a punch that was close to the back of the head but the ref thinks it's OK.
Hartmann is trapped and Thesz is scoring with shots to the head and body.
Thesz is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Hartmann defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.
